To play or not to play....that IS the question!

I thought I had everything figured out. i planned to go to a large state university about 3 hours from home. Yesteday, a coach contacted me from a smaller liberal arts school in the town where I live asking me to be a part of their team. My question: Will I regret not playing at the college level if I go away or will I regret playing soccer and not going away? This was not in the plan and now I am so stressed!!!! If you played a sport, how did you make this decision?

have you ever spent a time period - longer than 6 months - without playing your sport?
for me I could never stop playing so thats why I plan to play

Two things assuming money is no issue…

If you are passionate about your sport, then play it. If not, don’t because is it alot of work and time away from other things. You may want to hear from the coach about your expected playing time and contribution in this situation. It sounds to me like you were ready to “hang it up” for greener pastures at state school 3 hrs away. Why now are you second guessing yourself? Did you not know opportunities like this were available or did you just not want to pursue the whole recruiting thing? Be honest with yourself. There is only one right answer, and you’re the only one who knows it.

Academically equivalent? Will you get as good an education in your major with smaller school as you would have at state school?

If you really want to play your sport, and it is an academic equivalent, I say go for it. If it doensn’t work out, it doesn’t work it…you gave it a shot. At that point you may be able to transfer into your state school if it is still on your mind.

Good luck.

Does the state school have club or intramural soccer?

I am long out of college but for me the BEST part of it was being on the soccer team. I have the best memories from playing and traveling with friends (and some of them were in my wedding) and quite frankly it is what made college fun for me.
