To potential UCSD freshmen: Anyone willing to switch colleges?

Hi,

So I looked online and found out that switching/transfering colleges at University of California San Diego is near impossible. However, you can switch if you are able to find a student from another college who is willing to switch (i.e. switching from Revelle to Sixth, etc.)

I've been admitted to Sixth College for the Human Biology major, and I was wondering if anyone is interested in switching colleges?

Thank you

Is there any reason why you want to switch colleges? Why don’t you try giving Sixth College a chance before considering switching? UCSD put you into your college for a specific reason. It doesn’t matter which college you are in really, because you always intermingle with students from other colleges no matter what. Save yourself the hassle of switching colleges because like you said… it is fairly impossible!

I’ve never heard of anyone “switching”… are you sure that doesn’t apply to transfer students?

why the hell do you want to switch? because you heard a few bad things about sixth college, most of which are unfounded claims made by elitists in other colleges?

and no, you can’t switch unless you find a TRANSFER student that is willing to switch with you. good luck doing that.

Yes, you can switch colleges if you find someone to switch with you. For example if you were admitted to Revelle College and want to switch to Muir from Revelle, you need to find someone from Muir to switch to Revelle. BUT this will take one year because you need to prove that you are capable of handling the other colleges requirements by getting good grades.

Never heard of anyone switching either. Come to think of it, I don’t know anyone dissatisfied enough with their college to even think about switching.

I actually have a friend who switched from Revelle to Muir, but she had to go through some long petition process. She didn’t need to find someone from Muir to switch with – she just had to petition. The reason she wanted to switch is because she’s a non-science/engineering/math major and didn’t want to take all of Revelle’s math and science GEs. She’s the only person I know who has successfully switched colleges… so it’s possible, but not easy.

Human Bio major in Sixth shouldn’t be too bad, though. I know a bunch of Human Bio majors in Sixth right now, and they’re doing just fine. It’s probably not worth the effort to switch.

Do you know a lot of Molecular Bio Majors at Sixth? Im willing to give sixth a try, but a lot of my friends are telling me I picked the wrong college as a science major. (I think I should of picked Revelle…)

See the thing is, Sixth’s emphasis on study is based on CAT (culture, art, technology). So I’m majoring in Biology and plan on pursuing medicine. The college’s strength is "creative, innovative outreach in the 21st century through culture, art, and technology). I dont think this is right for me, and I have sources who have told me that colleges like Muir, Warren, and Revelle are much better for biological sciences.

I am not hating on Sixth, don’t get the wrong idea. I just want to be in the college that will provide the most emphasis on my major :D

slipperyunagi,

Actually you don’t. Med schools love to see students who are science majors but are also able to handle the humanities. You should view this is a great opportunity to show them that you can not only do science but also the humanities. If all you have is science classes your not likely going to get into med school. In fact alot of med schools require a certain number of humanities courses, one that comes to mind right off the bat is USC.

@slipperyunagi

I’m sorry, but that just doesn’t make any sense. The writing course have nothing to do with your major. You’re taking all the same biology classes as everybody else from every other college. Warren’s writing course was about the internet, which has nothing to do with biology. College’s don’t have “strengths”, they just have a writing course you have to take.

slipperyunagi, stop making up bull **** please. Your sources could not be more wrong.

Your writing courses will not and does not have any affect on your major. Writing courses for Revelle won’t help you prepare for Biology any more than CAT.

And for CAT 2, if you take Doppelt, the main theme of the class is bio-ethics, which I guess can be applied to biology. But honestly it doesn’t matter.

@happyhappy, it is my opinion that you should please calm down and stop being rude to the newly admitted students. What on earth do you think is going to make them want to come here if you’re on these boards reprimanding people for asking simple questions and offering their opinion? Sorry that not everyone likes Sixth College. Get over it. The two posters above you gave incredibly nice, realistic, mature responses. Your rudeness is unnecessary.

I got into ERC as a General Biology major (probably since I didn’t do any research beforehand and just applied randomly [all the sites look the same T-T]) and want to switch to Muir.
Confused about the process though… :(
