To Rent or To Buy?

Since I'm a math major, those textbooks aren't cheap regardless of whether it's new or used (the used price isn't the much off from the new price). So I was wondering, would it be wise to rent my textbooks or just suck it up and buy? Anyone has experience in deciding between the two?

See if you can get it through the library. I did that with a couple textbooks and just kept renewing them online. You can use an interlibrary loan (Illiad or something like that) sometimes even if the VT library doesn’t have a textbook.

If you do have to buy one don’t buy it from the bookstore unless you really can’t find it anywhere else. They’re much cheaper online. Renting might be a good idea, but make sure you know what happens if you lose/destroy your textbook.

Welp, didn’t realize that this wasn’t in the VT forum. Your library probably has a loan program though.

Any books in particular? There are a couple books that are expensive everywhere, but I haven’t had any problems getting books cheap most of the time. I really don’t think you should rent unless you’re not planning on taking any classes related to the topic.

It really depends. You should consider buying books for classes that have to do with your major. However, sometimes, it might be cheaper to buy the book than to rent.
