To Repeat or Not to Repeat?

Hi All-

I need some input from you guys. DD was accepted as a Sophomore boarder for this fall, but we are considering having her enter as a repeat freshman. Here is some info: currently attending local PHS, has missed a large amount of second semester due to illness, LPS not very rigorous, previous private school VERY rigorous (she is used to a LOT of work), on the older side for her grade, great athlete who plans to continue her sports in BS.

Please chime in with pros and cons. Thanks!

I would talk to the Admission office and perhaps the Academic Dean at the school and have conversations. I imagine they have many experiences with many students so I would follow their recommendation after thorough conversation with them.

@payn4ward …Thanks! I have been speaking with them and they are open to her doing either. I am hoping to get some personal experiences to help guide us!

There are several threads on this topic. Among others see:

I tend to fall in the repeat camp. In your DD’s case, she might well benefit academically from redoing freshman year. She might also benefit from an extra year athletically, depending her sport. However this might present possible eligibility issues and would require more investigation.
