To retake or not to retake - that is my question...

The first time around, I got this:

SAT (Critical Reading): 650
Math: 530
Writing: 580
Total: 1760

And in October, I got this:
SAT (Critical Reading): 660
Math: 570
Writing: 550
Total: 1780

Which is an increase of only 20 points! o.O;

Should I take it again in December, or should I not bother wasting my time studying? Are the SATs really that important?

take it if you think you could improve, I suppose

Depends where you are applying, I suppose, and what you are shooting for. When did you take it the first time, and did you study a lot for the October one?

you should retake, math isn't that hard to bring up

If your scores were that consistant, I doubt they will change much with a 3rd test, unless you do something major between now and then (SAT tutoring or a prep class).

The first time, I took it in my Junior year, in June.

I agree with Lafalum...

that it again. I only improved 40 points the 2nd time I took it, but I improved 200 points the 3rd time I took it ontop of the 40 points.

take it a 3rd time, I just took it again in october and my score went 300 points. The 2nd time I took it my score only went up 40. So, I guess 3rd times the charm. And focus on math and writing, your reading score is good enough.

If after two times your scores does not go up much, I would think it is time to look at the ACT. You may pull off 30+ for no explainable reason. Some people do better on the ACT than the SAT. However, there are just as many people who score in the exact same range.

Thanks everyone! I've decided to take it again, thanks you all for your input. :)

(I don't think I'll do good on the ACT, since I'm not really good at science.)
