To Retake, or Not To Retake: What a Confounding Question!

Hello all! I'm planning on applying EA to seven selective schools as a music education major. I have taken the SAT I three times and my top scores are as follows: R: 740 M: 650 W: 800. I'm in the door for two full tuition scholarships, but if I could just raise my math or reading score by 20-30 points, I would be in the door for a third full scholarship at a liberal arts college. However, since I'm homeschool, my admissions counselors at several schools have recommended that I take SAT IIs. I've picked American History, Bio, and Literature and feel like I could do very well in these, but I can't take both the SAT I and three SAT IIs on the same day and still apply EA to my schools. I would really appreciate some candid advice right about now. Thank you in advance!

your SAT1 is fine Just take the SAT 2’s.

You’ll have to check the particular school’s policy, but sometimes the school will accept both the October and November scores. I would take the Subject Tests in October to be sure they get those and then if you decide to (and if your schools accept it), take the SAT again in November.

I would definitely suggest subject tests rather than the SAT, but I think you should replace one of them with math, even if it isn’t your forte, because a decent subject test score can make up for your math SAT score being lower than the other two. If you’re applying to any non-liberal arts schools, even if you plan on studying the humanities, it’s important to be well-rounded.

an extra few points on the SAT wont be that astounding… just take subject tests
