So I took the SAT a second time and improved 170 points to 660 CR, 780 M, 790 WR.

However, I know I can get an 800 in math, and I'm sure with some practice I can raise my CR into the 700s (and WR, although I'm not sure if I would get such an auspicious essay prompt again). I'm all set with vocab/SC; it's the passages that give me trouble.

So, should I retake them in January (I'm a senior) if I plan on applying to ivies/MIT? English is my second language btw.

Thanks.

What are your other stats? MIT only gives the Writing Score the same weight as a SATII. For them it’s V+M (in your case 1440) that matters. That said, 1440 is great. If your other stats look good and your essays and LORs are fine, don’t waste your time on a retake.

Let’s just say my GPA isn’t the strongest out there… (3.7 UW), but I’m all set on ECs and LORs (nothing like IMO/Intel, but high leadership positions in school). Still, if I don’t go to MIT, many merit scholarships and internships are based on higher SAT scores, which gives me a reason to give it a better shot.

Alright, I’ll probably be retaking at this point, as all my schools accept January scores. I’m a bit worried about getting 790+ in writing again, as my essay in November was just lucky.

Any tips on improving CR though? I usually get all or maybe all but 1 sentence completion right; the passages give me trouble. Anyone with a lifesaving approach that will help with getting to the 700s (my practice test scores range from 620 to 770, so I need more consistency). Thanks!
