I recently received my score from the October SAT and got a 2300 for my first time taking the SAT:

770 CR
740 M
790 W

My question is whether I should retake it if I am planning to do ED for Princeton next year. I am a junior right now but am just wondering whether a little higher score would have any impact on the admissions process. Thanks!

Unless you have a financial situation, there's really no reason not to... The only downside is that your scores are consistently good- if you had two really high scores and a lower one, it would be more advantageous to retake it, but you could probably boost math a bit. Good luck!

In my opinion, you are in great shape. If I were you, I would not retake. 2300 is AWESOME. Dont even think about SAT I after this, just concentrate on ECs, SATIIs, and getting a "hook".

Especially if you have ECs that back up the high verbal component I would not bother to retake unless you didn't prep at all this time and plan to do a lot between now and then.

Unless you think you can definitely get a 2400, you probably should not retake. 2300 is awesome, and I know you probably feel like that Math score is a blotch on your otherwise perfect record, but I highly doubt it'll make a difference at all.
I don't know what the curve/scale was for this October test, but I think 740 (on Math SATI) would equate to missing 2 (maybe more depending on the actual test). 'Tis a harsh scale. So even if you retake it, a tiny mistake (or two) would get you about the same score.
Start studying for SATIIs now instead!

Actually, I don't see why you wouldn't retake, provided you have the time for it. You won't need to study any more, unless you need to refresh your memory, so you can't lose. 2300 is an excellent score, but the higher the better. Since you have so much time, there is no reason not to go for it again, unless you think this is your personal best.

I have the same situation with a 800 CR, 790 Math, and 710 Writing.

Should I retake to get a higher writing score? I'm very happy with my 2300, but I would like to raise my writing score because I know I can do it.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'll probably retake it again in the spring again and just work a little on the math. The suprising thing is that I'm usually pretty good at math and felt good about the test. I probably made some stupid mistakes, oh well. It'd just be nice to get like a 2350+ or something especially since this was my first time. Also, I wonder how many Juniors are on this board? It'd be cool to see how many other psychos like me are already stressing over college.

Yeah, how do adcoms view excellent CR/M scores and merely good Writing scores...I got 800 CR, 760 M and a "lowly" 710 Writing (pathetically, I'm actually a very good writer--I just had difficulty with the essay topic and ended up scoring a 9). The composite is good as is my CR/M split, but is the Writing a big strike against me?

As far as writing goes, I think that they will take into account that the best writers may not write well under timed conditions. (I at least hope so!!!)

My 2250 score (790,790,670wr) is worse than yours but I decided not to retake it. THough I am not sure of my opinion of AA as of yet I know being Afircan American I will benefit from it and thus decided to to focus on my SAT IIs instead. The question is do you think you will be competative and a score of 2300 definately is.
