Well, I got my SAT scores today and I managed to get a 12 essay. (Great thing is that I was actually expecting it). But here's the deal, my AP Lang/Comp teacher thinks I should just blank out on the Writing section for the SATs I take from now on to sort of "uphold" this 12 essay. Here's the problem... I had a horrible day and did terrible on that Writing (the rest of it) and got only a 650 (that is lame).

So, do colleges break it down and look at what I've scored on the essay or will they only look at the section score? I can guarantee that I can score pretty darn well on the Writing portion as a whole if I'm in the groove that day. Maybe even safe to say 100 points higher (750)-- because that's what my preps have resulted in at average. But, does it really matter? A 650 isn't too bad, especially since it's a fairly negligible section out of the three for the time being.

Because essay scoring is really open to interpretation and can fluctuate easily depending on several factors... I can't guarantee myself that I will score another 12 (though essays are my strongest talent in school). I can very well assume that I can score a 10 (that's what I gave myself for my preps and ended up with 730-770 range).

Anyway, I'm just wondering if this whole 12 essay thing is relatively important or not. To sum it up: Should I retake the Writing, or just let it sit as is?

Thanks
