I've never come out to anyone before. In the small town that I live in it just isn't safe. I'm thinking about writing one of my essays about being in the closet but then I wouldn't be able to get people to proofread it. Also, I'm not sure about how that would look to an admissions officer.

if writing it would put you in danger, don’t. I’m not sure from what you’ve said how it would say something about your character and achievements, which is what admissions really want to hear about.

You’re kidding, right?

Apologies if I’m missing something really obvious, but OP didn’t say anything else about his/her essay other than he/she was in the closet. That alone doesn’t reveal character imo. In conjunction with mentioning an ec or other significant event in his/her life, it could work as being part of his/her identity.

Obviously the OP would elaborate on the significance of being in the closet, how it has affected his/her life, how he/she has progressed through acknowledging his/her sexual identity, and so forth.

then you’re good maybe ask a parent on CC to proofread once you’re done. most cc parents are very tolerant.

Ok, thanks!

That would certainly work as the thing central to your identity essay. But this isn’t just a confessional, right?
