To SAT or not - that is the question.... (pls help)

So I'm an international from Asia. I have never taken the SATs before.

I recently decided to apply as a transfer to Brown and Cornell. However, my GPA at university now is not high, around a 3.0.

Thing is, my faculty (law) has an average GPA of 2.60. We just changed to the US system a few years ago.

I have a few questions:

1) If I tell them about my University's situation and how it's SO hard to get over a 3.0 for GPA (esp my subject law) would they understand ?

2) If I sign up for SATs just for the sake of perhaps giving my app. an edge, would it hurt to submit a low score? Aka a LOW SCORE or NO SCORE ? Would it actually hurt my app. if I send in a low (1800 ish) score?

Thanks and I'm so hopeful to transfer. I wish I can...:(

bump! please?

You definitely need to take the SAT.

If you’re applying for soph transfer then yes, an 1800ish score could hurt your app, especially at schools of such caliber. Honestly, if you really want to transfer you will have to find some safety schools… or at least match schools. Many schools have averages between 2.5 and 3.0 so that isn’t going to change how they see your GPA.

What if I do not report my 1800 ? e.g for Brown ?

You need SAT scores for consideration at those schools…especially with your GPA(no offense).

Retake the SAT, you still have time to register for the January one, though I don’t know if Brown or Cornell accept January scores.

Ok thanks guys!!
