To send an athletics highlights video or not?

After observing a considerable amount of successes with sending highlight video, I think I should send a video of my best shots in golf and my best swings and edit it up as much as I can with WMM :). I guess this would be a double bonus because I am interested in computer science, but my school lacks the resources to do anything about it, and I want to play golf in BS.

If you’ve got stuff to show and video editing skillzzz I really can’t see a reason not to.

fif hasn’t heard of any golf video’s – but hey things are changing and golf is becoming more mainstream at BS. Mostly it is football, b-ball, hockey and lax that is recriuted.

fif says go for it.

3rd person is a little bit god complexy dontchya think?

Yea, its extremely creepy, and yeah I know its not the most popular sport at bs, but it shows two interests, and not that many people play golf so it’s semi unique, also, to be frank, golf isn’t the most exciting sport so editting it up would make it much less banal.

CCer999 thinks fif should stop talking in the 3rd person, Ccer999 thinks its creepy.

I am going to be sending in a sports video to and I think you should do it CCer999. It increases your chance of getting in and the schools will see the anomalous sport (golf) as a hook.

If it is golf… Include alot of stats. Consistency is one of the most important things in golf, and the clip would be very very long if you provided enough shots to prove consistency.

I would put your stats at the beginning and coaching info also.

Eh, well I really don’t have a coach, because my middle school doesn’t offer anything, and there aren’t any local competitions meaning I have no purpose for a coach, but I’m currently taking lessons again to reinforce concepts and to improve anything that I haven’t already, and when you say stats, (just to make sure), you mean drive distance, handicap, average score, etc.

Ask yourself this question: Would I be on Varsity golf and would I make an impact in a year? If you say no to both of those then don’t send highlight film.
I’m only saying that because you’re not in a program right now.

If you can say I’ve won event A, B and C with an avg. score of 3 under par, then the coaches can tell admissions that you are a prospect. If you do it for fun… Don’t bother. Stats can be any measurable quantitative number for your performance to be evaluate. Any number that tells them how good you are basically…

Alright, thanks. I mean I won’t be a Varsity superstar; so based on what you said, I shouldn’t. And i’m not like a pro playing at the national level, its just an interest that I’m not half-bad at. But I will mention that I want to work hard to improve and that a side goal of mine is getting a PGA license.

That is a good goal and you should still send in a video.

I still think you should send it in, too! It definitely shows devotion and if you aren’t that great yet, just emphasize the fact that you are going to work hard to improve.

lemons.can.fly thinks that fif should talk in third person if she wants to. lemons.can.fly thinks that people should be more tolerant to people who are different from themselves.

Gee thanks lemons. fif thanks you for your support. You’re all heart.

ccer999 is sorry fif, ccer999 hopes fif will forgive ccer999.

If it’s going to take a lot of time I wouldn’t waste the time if you can’t say you’ve done something. I agree with italian. Anyone who gets on the coaches “list” has accomplishments/teams made and stuff to get teh coaches initial interest. But go ahead, just make sure they have a golf team and you talk to the golf coach first and ask if he wants one.

The thing about golf is that your score speaks for yourself. When you contact the coach, your handicap, recent scores, are really what they are interested in. You should be scoring in the 80s to be competitive, 90s maybe… I worked with a student who was heavily recruited, scored in the low 70s, nationally ranked, and they never asked him for a tape.

I think you should contact the coaches, tell them your scores/handicap, and they will let you know if they need more information.
