To send or not to send, that is the question

NOTE: BEN PLEASE DON'T READ THIS!! :p

Hey guys, I need some advice - (intl appl.)

I only had the chance to take the SAT I once, and no wonder, I got only a 1250 (600V 650M). I couldn't register for the december test, so in a spurt of last minute panic, I took the ACT.

It turned out as follows - Composite - **29/b
[ul]
[]English: **30/b
o Usage/Mechanics - 90%
o Rhetorical Skills - 98%
[]Mathematics: **28/b
o Pre-algebra/Elem.Alg. - 83%
o Alg./Coord.Geo. - 97%
o Plane geo/trig. - 84%
[]Reading: **26/b
o Soc.studies/Science - 99%
o Arts/Litt. - 30% (I couldn't read the last passage)
[]Science: **30/b
[/ul]

I've waited long enough (2 months) for the scores to show up at myMIT but it still says "no scores received", so I think I should fax the report.

Does it make any sense to send em? I know that 29 ACT = 1300 SAT, which only confirms that I'm dumb. On the other hand, I think top 10%ile in most sections will make my app competitive in terms of the Numerical Index.

Or am I better off not sending my ACT scores, so that the 1250 may pass as a fluke (which it really was)?

 Advice appreciated.

I don't think it will help too much.. :)

me neither think that would help much. also considering MIT has already gone through all applications .. eh..
i heard unless it's something WOW, the initial decision does not usually change.

maybe (if you realy want to send additional stuffs) sending recent achievements as well as new scores would do something. (better than mere scores, i guess)

aight, then I'll save myself (and the adm.office) some trouble :)

as for the apps being reviewed already, well I'm an intl applicant, and the intl apps are still being reviewed.

Thanks for replying, plushenko and dreaming.

oh yea... bump

where the heck did ya find this thread from? humiliating me in public :D

The inevitable consequence of the Bumping Era :D

to clarify, i do have the equiv of a 1540 on the AAT (indian version of SAT I).... and ~790 on english and computer science :D

so laugh not ye who lurks on this board

You're still awake!!!

(Well, I wanted to bump this thread :D)

hahahaha....i think we can call the emergency bumping era offically over now...

If test scores don't matter as much as people think, then why is everyone so worried?

It's only a small part of the application, it really is.

.. a small part of the application, one with the power to turn an otherwise fine application into an auto-reject. Actually, 1480 or 1540 are not much different, but 1250 certainly is low. That's why I was worried.

and.... who dug this up AGAIN? :p :o

Well, and look at it this way: a fabulous test score isn't going to get you in, but you're best off making the score as good as you can so that it's not a detraction from your application as a whole.

Plus, it's one part of your application that you have the capacity to really polish up (you can't go back and undo your freshman year grades, or pick up some insanely awesome EC, but you can take the SAT over if you didn't do well).

Standardized tests are still lame, though.
