To send supplementary letters of recommendation or not to send?

Hi! I’m currently conflicted about whether I should have my supplementary recommender send her letter to certain schools. For example, Brown says that most of their admitted students don’t submit anything extra, but they welcome it or something like that. I think that Yale makes it pretty clear that they don’t want you to send anything in unless it’s truly exceptional, so I’m not going to have it sent to them. I’ve seen the letter that was written for me, it just hasn’t been sent anywhere yet. It was written by the president of an organization that I partnered with to start a community service program. Of course, she wrote a lot of good things about my leadership, connection with the people we served in the program, and everything that I did to improve it and stuff like that. The program is related to one of my two main extracurricular interests. I applied to a lot of schools like JHU, Ivies, Northwestern, Emory, and Duke (all of my safeties I’ve heard back from in the early round). What do you guys think about this sort of thing?

Follow the instructions for each college. For those that accept supplements, you will have to decide whether or not the letter bolsters your application. From your description, it sounds like it would. Good luck!
