to sir with or without housing?

i'm waitlisted @ UCI and UCSD, so i'm planning to sir to ucsc, but do i put down for advance housing now or do i do that later and is it refundable.

Put it down now. It is refundable to a certain date I think late May.

=(, uci doesnt get back till june 15 and ucsd is like july

Honestly, would you rather lose $150 or not have any housing at all? I would not rely on waitlist as a strong chance of admission. This is quoted from the SIR page “UNIVERSITY HOUSING - [$150 Advance Housing Fee Required]
By selecting this option you are indicating a preference for university housing and agreeing to submit payment (by electronic check or credit card for online payment; check or money order by mail) for the $150 advance housing fee at the conclusion of this online process. The advance housing fee is applied to your first quarter housing charges, and is refundable only if: a) written cancellation is received by the application due date; b) written cancellation is received before a space is confirmed in a waiting list situation; or c) we cannot provide you with a room matching your preferences.
Once the Office of Admissions has assigned you to a college, the Campus Housing Office will send you information about the housing options available to you and instructions for submitting an online housing application.”

I thought the housing applications open up on June 7th?

Just submit the housing application fee- The housing applications don’t even come out until June and chances are you would hear from both schools by then and can get your money back, if need be. Better to be safe than sorry. :)
