To Solve an Argument

Alright... I've been arguing with several students at school about this kid appyling to Duke and some other schools. I say he doesn't get in; others say he does. Here's the stats:

GPA: 3.2
Estimated Rank: Top 30-45%
School: #2 Ranked Public School in Kentucky

ACT: 34

Schedule:
No AP or honors classes until this year. Here is the current schedule:
AP US Government
AP English
Honors Pre-Cal
World Issues
Humanities
Business Law

He only has one EC:
Football (9-10)

He isn't good enough to be a NAIA athlete.

He also has no known major awards other than the small school stuff (A/B honor roll)

He's Applying to
Duke
Cornell
Brown
Yale

So, who is correct? Me, by saying he has no chance because of his easy schedule and low GPA and to add that he can't qualify for scholarships at the University of Kentucky (GPA/Class Rank) or the other kids (high ACT?)

No chance.

You live in Crestwood OP?

Louisville, KY.

My school has the #2 CATS score and the #1 college attendance rate among public schools in Kentucky. (Male HS) That is where I'll base my ranking from. We had a class 3 years ago where a kid got into MIT, one into Yale and one into Northwestern.

Yeah, LVille is right outside of Crestwood.

Why do you ask? You know someone there? Just wondering why you asked me about Crestwood.

I say probably not. His GPA is low, there is a lack of APs, his rank and ECs are nothing special. ACT can't balance that. Unless he proves himself to be well-lopsided (amazing at something) or has legacy/URM status, amazing essays, and great recommendations, he has little chance. Even with the things I mentioned added in, his chances are maybe mediocre or low at best.

Hello proletariat, call me if you'd like to mount a revolution. Oh, and the kid has a crappy chance.

Well, he is screwed then. He is not amazing at something. He is fairly lazy, and his essays likely suck. There is probably not many teachers that would give him a strong recommendation for they taught him in weak classes. And he is a white conservative/reactionary and that fact is overtly evinced in his essays.

Hmmm......sounds like you hate this guy.

ryf, yeah my friend lives in Crestwood

I don't like him at all... He is very bold in flaunting his ACT score; I scored 1980 on the SAT 2 years ago (about a 30 or a 31 on the ACT) and haven't retaken since because I did not have the opportunity. I would likely score better than a 1980, but I was also taking pain killers when I took the SAT. It is a rivalry between us. The rivalry is only heightened for I am a liberal Democrat.

It's good I have ECs and state awards on my application.

if those are the only four schools he's applying to, he seriously needs to get off whatever cloud he's floating on and come back down to reality.

I told him that. He told me that he was surely getting into Duke EA. I told him that he was smoking something good and to have fun with his rejection/deferral.

Keep us informed as to what happens when his decision arrives...

I definitely will update this thread often. I believe he said he applied EA, but he could just be BSing me or something.
