Sorry if the title is misleading and you were expecting to find any tips on how to write the "why this college" essay.

But I was wondering.. I think this kind of topic almost inevitably calls for a standard thesis-two/three body paragraphs format .. or at least that's how I tend to answer them. Do any of you guys anwer this question "creatively"?
I know the content is what's most important, but I think many ppl's reasons tend to overlap with other ppl's and colleges get tired of hearing the same thing. I've been trying to make my reasons as personal as possible, but when i read them over, they always seem to sound cliche or general.

I don't know.. maybe I'm worrying too much about standing out

I wrote a poem-like thing for my top college. For the other four I did basic 3 paragraphs. I know what you mean about wanting to stand out, which I try to do in all my writing. But in general, if your answers are honest and specific to you then you don’t have to get cute like I did. PM if you want to see mine.

dillbilly: lol but i think whether it’s considered the least important part or not will depend on the college. Besides, when applying to selective schools, you want to try to stand out in as many parts of the application as you can.

confusedliz: i guess you’re right about being honest and specific. It’s just that i’ve read a couple of other ppl’s essays on this topic and although i could see their honesty and see it was specific, i couldn’t help but think that they all sound pretty much the same. Maybe it has to be more specific, i suppose?

With this question, answer in a way that makes your need to access the opportunities of ONLY this college necessary.

Ex - you NEED to participate in a research program because of past credentials, you want to be a _____, ehich only college provides a path to, etc.

This is better explained in an essay book. I suggest buying one.
