To submit or not submit. That is the Brown financial and question

So Brown is now need-aware. I have heard different answers as to what degree it affects your admissions chances. I've also heard rumors of admissions being more competitive this year.

My situation: We thought our EFC was 18 grand, but on Brown's system its 20-25. I'm considering withdrawing my financial aid application to improve my chances of getting accepted (there is very little money for transfers -- and if they cant fund you, you get rejected).

I crunched some numbers, and after loans and some contributions I already know I can make, we would have to come up with an extra 7-12000 dollars, depending on our EFC. But we also have to cover the difference caused by our increased EFC.

My family can't afford this, but we can "do" this. I'm going to try to get some outside scholarships, spend most of my life savings (about 5000), work during the summers (I do this anyways, but now it would all go directly to tuition), and my 'parents will take out loans to cover the rest.

The last thing I want is to not get in because of need. At the same time however I don't want to relinquish financial aid if i would have otherwise been one of those who recieved it, especially because I would like to do the 5 year AB ScB program (it's less likely that I would do this at the schools that would give me aid because they don't have the programs I want). However, this is not critical; I'm willing to give up that aspiration.

I can't describe to you how much I want to go to Brown.

What do you guys think?

Bump Please

anyone at all?

I was rejected by Brown's RUE program. I actually emailed Mr. Goldberger and tried to get an answer. His assistant told me it wasn't one thing, but I could tell by the email that financial aid was a bis part of it. I asked for a fee waiver and requested financial aid, and although they didn't say that's what it was, I could tell it was a huge part when I brought up the subject.
they went on to tell me that Brown is not in good shape with financial aid. Anyway, take from it what you will.

If he said they're not in good shape, what a bunch of ....
They just got a 100 million dollar donation last year they said they were using for aid!!!!! cha. bums.

oh, and i'm very, very very sorry you didn't get in. I empathize. I got rejected and then waitlisted and this is my last go. I think i'll lay in bed and cry for a week if i don't get in

Oh well. I guess Brown's loss will be another school's gain, for the both of us.

well I'm not rejected yet...I'm trying to figure out whether to pull the finaid request or not

If I had known, I would have just sought outside, Alternative Loans to cover me. I didn't think financial aid would have had a huge bearing on the admissions decision. And remember they didn't come right out and say that it did, but their response to my financial aid questions gave me a reason for concern. I guess the money or lack there of takes senority over potentially successful students for their school.

Yeah they say its minor but I'm skeptical. It's just like when they say SAT's are minor. And my dog wrote Hamlet.
