To take a science during summer or double up?

Here's my story: with my two periods of classes to choose from besides what is required, I am taking spanish, which leaves me with one space. Now, I'm second in my class, but I'm not one of those people that constantly freaks out about college admissions. That's most of my peers.

I'll be a junior next year, and the past two years I've taken honors orchestra to fill that slot. My problem is this: a lot of the competitive students at my school double up on science their junior year and take AP physics or AP chemistry. I honestly have no desire to make my work load heavier, and would much rather take orchestra because 1. i have had the same teacher since i was 11 and she knows my worth ethic; 2. i would enjoy it more; and 3. i won't be able to audition for my state's all-state orchestra that i have been a part of if i am not in orchestra.

The APs at my school are a joke. I hear AP chem is hard because the teacher desn't teach. (It's true. I have her this year.) And AP Physics is an automatic A+, but it doesn't mean I'll do well on the AP exam.

SO my options are either
1. take orchestra honors and take a course in the summer so i am caught up with my classmates
2. take AP US History over the summer and double up on a science
3. double up on sciences, don't take orchestra, but participate in after school orchestra.

What do you CCers think? I feel like you're the people to ask. Haha.

I would take Honors Orchestra next year. It’s basically an EC and All-State looks good on your App. I think that you should go to your counselor or someone knowledgable and ask if it is necessary to double on Sciences in order to have a rigorous schedule at your school. If he says yes then I would take a science class in the summer. If he says it is not neccessary than I wouldn’t do it. But have you thought about taking a science class outside of school but during the school year? You could go to a community college or take it online. I know CTY does online AP classes and I’m sure other places take it as well. That way you would be doubling up and still in orchestra.

man up, double up on science, and get that valedictorian.
