Hi, I'm a junior in New Jersey. I enrolled into a BC Calc course last year and got 5 on AP test. But right now I was wondering whether I should just take the AP stats test at the end of this year without taking the actual course in school. Im am worried that I might not get a 5.

Questions:
1. Generally do people get 5 on ap stats if they get 5 on calc?
2. Is it more impressive to get 5 on test without taking class or is it all the same?

The AP Stat test isn't too hard, but it definitely has very little to do with calculus, and isn't a typical 'math' class...it's more impressive to get a 5 without taking the class, but colleges won't know you took the test until after you're admitted anyway, so having it say "AP" on transcripts is good...

I'm in both AB Calc and AP Stat, and they are completely different from each other; though Stat is a lot easier. The math is elementary; it's just the terms and crap like that which you have to memorize. That said, you will fail the test just based on your Calc knowledge.

yeah, they really have nothing to do with each other. college board does that on purpose (as well as with calc/econ) to make sure no one has an advantage. you should definitely study pretty hard; it's not tough math, just alot of random number-y knowledge.

Yeah, AP Stats and AP Calculus are very different schools of mathematics. But generally, if you do well on Calc, you will do fine on the AP Stats exam. I haven't taken the BC calc exam yet, but I took the IB Math SL exam and got a 7 and I got a 5 on Stats too and since IB Math SL is easier than BC Calc, I assume that you would be more than capable of getting a 5 on the Stats exam

Someone with a 5 on BC Calc certainly has the intelligence to score a 5 on Stat....but could they do it with no study/knowledge of statistics? Hell no...MAYBE a 3 if you have ungodly intuition.

thanks for the comments...but its not like i would take the test without studying .....im just wondering whether or not I would be able to get a 5 with some studying and practice

and sberlin....i graduate next year so colleges will se the score but not the class cuz im self studying

I definitely think that you could get a 5 if you were to actually study for this test. A kid from my school who took the IB Math HL test(Basically BC Calc, AP Stats, and advanced Euclidean Geometry) with only haven taken BC Calc so he had to learn AP Stats on his own and he got a 5 on the AP test, but he also got a 7 on the IB test as well
