My son is registered to take both Math II and Bio subjects SATs in June. For Math, it looks like he has a good shot at an 800, but for Bio he is not scoring as well on practice tests and thinks he will be lucky to get a score in the low 700s. The question is, is it worth even attempting the Bio test if he feels that his score is not likely to be spectacular? He only needs two subject SATs and will probably want to take Chem next year when he is done with AP Chemistry. It seemed logical to attempt the Bio SAT this year because of all the studying he has done for AP Bio (doing well in the course, still awaiting the results of the AP exam), but now he is having doubts. Any thoughts? Does one's record look better with no attempt at all or with a score that is pretty good but not outstanding? Yes, he knows about score choice, but not all universities participate in it.

Give it a shot. It is much cheaper to do 2 or 3 subjects together. After all, you don’t need to submit all scores. Even for schools require all score, you may still do score choice for subject test (e.g. Stanford).

Echoing what billcsho said, you don’t need to submit every SAT score you get. If anything, it can only help you. Everything’s worth a try. :)

I suggest going ahead and taking it, but note that this year’s remodeled AP Bio and the Bio SAT do not correlate at all. I know most AP Bio classes (including mine) barely went over anatomy and specific biological processes (which are heavily stressed on the SAT). You have to study all that on your own unfortunately. Good luck to your son!

Thank you everyone!
