Does move in day happen after the preorientation programs?

Because if my parents dropped me and my stuff off at yale for FOOT or something, i wouldnt expect them to stay in NH for five days...but dorms arent open before official move in day right

Move-in day is the same day that you get back from the FOOT trip. D took Amtrak to New Haven to go on her trip, and we drove her stuff up and met her on move-in day. It worked out very well, but then again we're convenient to trains and only a few hours' drive away. Some of her roommates, who also did FOOT, came from the west coast. They flew out by themselves and had their belongings shipped. Their parents came for Parents' Weekend rather than move-in day.

We live in Michigan. D flew out for FOOT. We drove out with all her stuff to meet her on move-in day. We got in the drop-off line, emptied the car and all her stuff was moved into her room by the volunteers before I got back from parking the car. As a result, all her belongings were in her room before she returned from FOOT.

UMDAD, did you find that your D was too busy being a freshman to spend any time with you once she got out of the car on campus (perfectly fine and appropriate, if so)? I'm getting the impression that we should disappear fairly immediately after drop-off, unless there are parent-specific activities that day. Advice? We will be flying so need to plan ahead.

We arrived at 9 and moved all the stuff up to her room. They don't arrive from FOOT until 11-1 (and then need a long hot shower). There are tons of things to do on campus that day for both students and parents. We left about 5, after a reception at her college.
