to the people who go to U of Illinois Urbana Champaign?

just one main question:

do you like it there? do you enjoy staying in Urbana-Champaign?

Of all the campuses I visited in the summer preceding my senior year of high school, this is the only place that struck me as somewhere I'd be happy to be. I love the setting, the resources, the huge mix of people, and the tons of things you can do (activities/recreation, clubs, etc.). Have not had a single regret about choosing this place over somewhere more densely populated.

it's in a very rural area, and the weather is a little bit too mundane and cold.

on the other hand, there's a ton of stuff to do, and obviously, you get the big-10 experience. the campus is stunning during the 4 warm months. commercial development has increased ten-fold recently, so the campus is becoming less and less rural-feeling.

it kind of boils down to whether or not you could survive out in the cornfields.

It isn't really that rural if you don't drive more than 10 minutes in any direction. That said, I like it here.

I didn't enjoy Chambana at all! I got so bored of the corn and all the drunk kids that I transfered to the chicago campus. UIC has such a beautiful south campus, and the fact that I can work a part time internship at a big chicago firm was big plus. Though the East campus, is a bit dry at UIC, but they are currently renovating it.

And there is SOOO much more to do in Chicago, last year I could see the sears tower, and Lake Michigan from my dorm. The new dorms at UIC are 100x better than the ones I stayed at UIUC.

My best friend's daughter graduated from UIUC about 4 years ago with a Chemical Engineering degree. She was hired by Google (in Mountain View) upon graduation and is still working there.

I was talking to her about 3 months ago and she really enjoyed her time at UIUC and being one of the sororities there. She did think the town was a bit rural, but said that she heard that has been changing during the years since she graduated.

'all the drunk kids'
- I thought UIUC would be a serious study place - especially for Engg and CS.

"I thought UIUC would be a serious study place - especially for Engg and CS."

It is. Dont let anyone make you believe otherwise.

It is both a serious studying and a serious drinking place. Just depends on where you go at night :D.

If you're a CS nerd, then U of I is a great place. If you're into the whole Greek thing, then U of I is a great place. If you're into the whole Big Ten sports thing, then U of I is a great place.

If you have a seriously intellectual love of learning and you're more inclined towards the liberal arts, you will not be happy here. I wasn't.

So, it depends on what you're into.
