To the rejectees:

Well, what an agonizing and disappointing road it has been for (most) of us.

Whether this is your first rejection (which it is for me), or you've dealt with these pre-collegiate admission woes before, we all have a lot on our minds...

This is just a free forum for all the students denied ANY admission to UMD to talk about...Well, everything!

Even though this may be a sore subject, I thought I would get this started in hopes of stimulating some positivity and good energy.

Just remember this:
Don't dwell on what has happened, use this as an opp. to make the absolute BEST of an unfavorable situation.
Moreover, talent lies within all of you, and you don't need an acceptance letter to tell you that!

That being said... LET'S STAY POSITIVE! :)

Jerseyjourney, this is a good idea but imagine most of those not accepted have moved on to other forums. This was my first college rejection which was disappointing but not too upsetting since UMd was not my #1. I attend an in-state school that sends about 50 applications a year to UMd and historically has about a 50% acceptance rate. Yes, there are those that probably should not have applied but each year there are about 20 seniors in my school wondering what they didn’t do right on their application or question why so and so got in and not them. I thought I was a competitive applicant with great grades, high SAT scores, good ECs and lots of service hours. My principal provided an excellent recommendation and I even attended the UMd Young Scholars Program last summer receiving an A with 3 college credits. Ironically, some of the schools that accepted me were impressed with this achievement. It is my opinion, that there is nothing wrong with many who were very competitive that did not get accepted. There are just too many qualified applicants applying to this excellent school. I think the “fine distinctions between many qualified students” that UMd admissions made were based on geographic diversity, legacies, random selection, and some other mysterious formulas. UMd is a great place and I congratulate those who were selected.

lol I need an acceptance letter from UMD to tell that I am going to be successful in life
