Yo, hookem, sorry, man.
What I meant wasn’t that all the people who love learning got in, but rather that those who don’t love knowledge for its own sake, but rather toil their whole lives to get into college A, didn’t.
I KNOW there are thousands of brilliant applicants who deserved to get in more than me, don’t get me wrong. I’m sorry if I came off as arrogant.

and this is the mature way to handle a rejection? wow.

Two things hookem will have that Yalie’s won’t. The sweet NC weather and ummm… the exciting social scene!

My roomies and I would road trip to Durham every year. We always looked forward to getting out of the dreary New Haven February.

1) Yale is a great school
2) I was rejected from Yale

3) I am not a great student.

(Do you see the non sequitur?)

Congratulations to everyone who got in; pet Handsome Dan for me.

To all those who didn’t get in: Yeah, this sort of thing happens.

Move on.

Everything I have ever heard from people who work in admissions is that they, more than anyone, recognize the superb accomplishments of those they turn away. It is the underlying reason for wanting to increase the number of residential colleges at Yale.

Not all kids can be admitted - and there may be many who were rejected who were even smarter or more interesting or more enthusiastic than those who were. For those who didn’t get in - you knew it was a bit of a crap shoot - but at least you took a chance. Don’t be bitter towards the school for not choosing you or towards those who were admitted.

And amen to the weather in Durham!!

“Don’t be bitter towards the school for not choosing you or towards those who were admitted.”

The Yale admissions committee and the professors and students we hoped to be in the company of are two different things.

One is concerned with a bottom line/sponsorships/PR and one is concerned with learning.

“Don’t be bitter towards the school for not choosing you or towards those who were admitted.”
^ I really can’t be. I’m sure those recruited athletes are just mindblowingly better students than I am.

To fellow rejectees: Yeah, the framework of value is generally crap, and capacities for these schools haven’t adequately changed in hundreds of years (literally).
So, screw’em, and move on.

miops - your second reply probably was no better than the first comment that prompted a good remark from hookem. My son was rejected and he loves learning for its own sake, just as his parents do, and no doubt just as thousands of other rejected people do. That is a very difficult concept to judge in an individual. It’s just one of the factors of admission and it might be a deciding item, even if Yale has a reasonable assessment for a given student, or it might not.

I’ll bet there were plenty of admitted students who don’t necessarily have a passion for education and learning and have tremendous resumes anyway. Their passion might be elsewhere, such as in music or community service or political leadership.

^ Or in playing child’s games really well as grown men and women.

:::::::::::the people who get into yale have, for the most part, wasted their childhood attempting to get into a marginally better college than wherever you’re going. you may feel like you need to get revenge on yale by sending back your rejection letter, but when you’re fighting against losers who have sacrificed fun and friends for thousands of hours of studying and extracurriculars, you’ve effectively already won. ‘’‘’‘’‘’‘’‘’‘’‘’‘’‘’‘’‘’‘’‘’::::

Since the country music fight that hookem and I had, I have developed a good relationship with him. He is my boyfriend, and I think I would have been great friends with him at Yale.
But Yale did not take him.
How do you think that makes me feel? I got in, but he is bitter. He has every right to be bitter. I have EVERY RIGHT TO BE BITTER. I HAVE HAD NO LIFE BECAUSE EVERYDAY, I KILL MYSELF.
I am good at making my resume and application look great and still not look like a nerd. I have started listening to music, to give me a life.
IT IS NOT WORKING!
Hookem was the one i thought would be good to help me.
DID NOT HAPPEN.
So I think He HAS THE RIGHT TO BE BITTER.
I will not get to see his blonde hair. I will not get to MAKE HIM LISTEN TO COUNTRY.

MOST OF ALL, WE ALL MADE THE BEST THREAD ON CC. The Magical THREAD BROUGHT US ALL TOGETHER GUYS!!!
NO FIGHTS. Please, if he sends Yale the letter, he has the right to do so.
Maybe they need to expand their res halls, but that will bring in just 100 more or wutever.
Yale is Yale, and Harvard is Harvard.
Duke is Duke, and Penn is just a party school.
If he goes to law school, he will be great.
Hookem, I am pretty undecided. I might be a research scientist and disprove evolution.
I have no life, and I wrote that in my essay. I guess I put too many jokes in it and they loved the jokes. They did not think once that it may be true.

Hookem will teach them a lesson, but that means that you have to go to Harvard law.
We will see, but YOU DO HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE ****ED.

Love you guys!

Must I add that for those few pretentious people who go to H & P (minus the Yale applicants who wanted to come here), you will be the best you can.
You will do well, and all that and all that.

But making people feel bad about a rejection is no joke.
And I will make sure your children make my fries and etc.
I am from a background where teachers have told me to go to some community college.
THAT DID NOT HAPPEN.

Guess what, their children WILL serve my fries and burgers.

I am off to make a thread of my own

LOL Hookem,

Thanks for your unfailing sense of humor. :)

Haha wow, I actually took the time to read everyone else’s posts and I’m surprised that so many took you seriously, Hookem. Like limetime said, thanks for the pickup. Made me smile. :)

lol and I saw someone mention the Tufts Syndrome… did a lot of people get accepted to Ivies and waitlisted there like I was? xD

^ Thanks for understanding, you two.

…and BWB, I love ya Have fun at Yale!

I hope Yale teaches me how to understand what bluewhitebulldog writes.

geez, calm down. there are much better ways to vent your frustrations than with anonymous people over the internet.

Hookem - Know what? You’ll probably have a lot more fun at Duke than the Yalies do where they’re going. Change your screen name to “Forkem” and enjoy!!! :)

I actually laughed out loud at southeasttitan.

Thank you. It needed to be said.

Hopefully by the time you apply for law school you will be mature enough to look back at this and laugh. I’m sure this is just for laughs though.

I can’t believe so many people didn’t understand what hookem was trying to say. I tend to lurk these Yale threads sometimes and I mean come on, he was just saying he’s not gonna let this rejection stop him from becoming who he wants to be. What more is there to discuss? I really hope he makes it into Yale Law.

I think Southeast Asians generally do not understand me.
It is not a crime, but a clash of cultural lingo.
Maybe Yale will help you understand me.
