sugarbabi…i am in no means trying to be cocky but everyone in the state of florida knows its easier to get into FSU than UF. and im sorry if i offend anyone, but if i get rejected to FSU, there is a problem, im not downgrading FSU but i feel i am right in saying i should get accepted to fsu without a doubt. ****..i still think i shouldve been accepted to uf, but thats a story im over. if u search my threads u can look at my stats. and then tell me if u think ill get rejected to fsu, if so, i wana know, cuz thats very important news to me.

For what it’s worth Kauffman check out USF’s School of Engineering also.

kauffmanV36, I hope you have a back up plan just in case you don’t get into FSU. Never assume that any acceptance is a sure thing. The quality of applicants to all schools is incredible this year. You’re up against kids with incredible accomplishments, test scores, life experiences, scholar athletes, Intel science semi-finalists, etc. Hopefully you sent out at least 5-6 applications to various colleges.

I can tell you as a future communications grad that in journalism/PR/Advertising your school has absolutely nothing to do with your career ladder (unless you go to a real top-notch program like Northwester, Miss, Syracuse, UF, FSU, etc.) It’s all about your portfolio, instincts, and natural ability as a writer. The vast majority of your training you receive in-house and no employer will ever ask you how to draft a perfect press release or newspaper heading in an interview. In this field, you make your career - not your school. As a matter of fact, I’ve read articles about the journalism profession which all indicate that traditional journalism programs may even be a DETRIMENT to your career advancement and abilities. Of course it doesn’t hurt when landing a job, but the bottom line is that it’s not absolutely necessary to attend a top program to get a good job.

With that said, graduate programs in journalism, mass communications and/or creative writing = biggest waste of money in higher education.

ive been convinced and i have realized i just wont be happy at fsu. sante fe more probably, get my 60 credits before 2 years and transfer to uf along with my cousin. because apparentely were both ■■■■■■■,lol. i keed i keed. thanks for all the help guys.

Santa Fe transferring is being cut in half (maybe even less from here on out). This is a very risky move in my opinion.

Yeah, I have many friends in SFCC that are hoping to transfer and they never may

Class Sizes are too large as it is. I don’t really care if they get admitted.

Here is an editorial in yesterday’s Orlando Sentinel about UCF’s sliding quality standards as written by the faculty’s union chief. It is brutal. Personally, I think its overstated in a substantial way, as you might expect of a union leader, but I would be very troubled by it if I was a UCF student or a parent of one.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/community/news/ucf/orl-ucf2108mar21,0,757819.story

I just got back from a visit to UCF, and it looks like I may go there if my appeal to UF doesn’t go through. I didn’t even bother applying to FSU because I could never be a nole after living in a gator/cane household. (So much hatred!) Also, I was admitted to UCF’s honors program. While I was there, they actually mentioned they only admitted 20% of the honors college applicants into the program this year, and almost all of them are in the top 10% of the freshman class, so that’s interesting.

dvm258, If you get accepted into UCF Honors College, do they make you go there? I got accepted into UF, but I just want to apply to UCF Honors College just in case I don’t go to UF.. (I’m currently considering going to UCF since it’s closer from home and etc..)

I think it’s too late to be doing either application at this point. The honors college told us they have already admitted more people they have room for, of course expecting that a certain number will decide not to come, but the fact that they have reached that point already shows how far along in the process they are. I also think their deadline is next week…

Applying to UCF is also getting much harder, but since you got into UF you should get in. My OOS gf had two AP classes and a 1200 SAT and was rejected two weeks ago; she applied in February. It just shows that in a rolling admissions process you need to act fast.

if i go to Sante Fe i will definitely bust my ass to get a >3.5 GPA because being rejected from a transfer to UF from SFCC is not an option for me. that would be devastating and honestly, i wouldnt know what to do. lol. so…being rejected a transfer is not an option. i know i can do it if i work hard and dont slack like i have in high school.

Oh, I already got in UCF. I applied back in November. I was just looking to get in the honors college as well. I’ll try to apply, and hopefully I’ll get in…

How difficult is it getting accepted into UCF these days? I think some of the people on this board make it seem like it’s impossible to get into.

It’s definitely not impossible to get into, but it’s quickly becoming harder. Last year, it was harder than FSU, though this year because of the budget cuts FSU can become more selective again, but that has yet to be seen. (There are many deniers that UCF will eventually overtake FSU, but I think it will, academically speaking.)

I got these statistics from the colleges’ admissions websites:

UCF:

Avg. GPA- 3.72
Avg. SAT- 1217
Avg. ACT- 26.1
Freshman Applications- 19,000 (Obviously, they rounded)
Admits- 9,000
Approx. Students Admitted- 47% (Lets just say 50%, because they rounded)

FSU (Averages were taken by averaging the 25% and 75% range together)-

Avg. GPA- 3.7
Avg. SAT- 1200
Avg. ACT- 26
Freshman Applications- 19,788
Admits- 10,634
Approx. Students Admitted- 53%

You can see that they were basically equally selective last year.

I think that, since UCF is on rolling admissions, it is much easier to get into if one applies at the beginning of the application period. After January there just aren’t as many spots left. The same goes for FSU. If you really want to maximize your chances of admission you should make sure that all of your information (application, transcripts, scores) are in by the FIRST deadline (when they have the most spots available).

Next up is for FSU to get a fine spot in 4th tier.they are trying so hard to get down there.

Jeez, how did UCF get selective so fast? When I was in high school, you basically applied and got in. I thought it was called U Can’t Finish for a reason.

Anyways, I never realized that FSU was lacking so bad in that department. 53% admission is horrendous. The fiscal crisis in FL must be REALLY crappy.

Wow, I guess they rounded down! I found the actual numbers somewhere else on the UCF website:

Applicants- 20,128
Acceptances- 9,184
Approx. Students Accepted- 45.6%
