What were your stats?
(i.e. gpa, class rigor, SAT score)

I want to know if I have a chance. 3.84 GPA and 1780 SAT

What were your stats?
(i.e. gpa, class rigor, SAT score)

I want to know if I have a chance. 3.84 GPA and 1780 SAT

3.92 unweighted, ~2100 SAT, 35 ACT. 8 Honors, 7 AP classes. If my stats were average or below average, I think my essays and extra curricular activities would have gotten me in though.

Your GPA is fine and SAT is a little on the lower end, but what they REALLY look at is your essays and your extra curricular activities. UW prides itself in being a holistic university, so show off that you have leadership skills, can take initiative, etc.

Transfered from a community college with my AA. My GPA was 3.92
Transfered in as a Junior

I never took the sat/act

speedsolver- did you get in?

Yes. I was high school class of 2010, in state.

do you think I can get in?
My essays are pretty damn good. One is about my mothers death and one is about being jewish (for cultural).

i am just so dang stressed about getting in and march is too far away.

I have pretty good ec’s too. employment, work at hopsital, presidents award, captain of jv basketball

I think that as long as your essays were strong and you did a good job writing/describing your extra curricular activities, you’re okay. I know it’s a stressful wait, and it’s just begun. Hang in there!

Don’t worry, you have a good chance. Your SAT is a little on the low side compared to UW average, but your gpa is good and your ECs are great. Your a strong applicant overall, try not to stress over it too much. They review everything not just your scores. ;)

Seriously, the wait is going to stress me over so much. I did a good job explaining my extra credits. Only thing is that I’m white and I heard you have a unfair advantage if you are a minority. I did pull the jewish heritage so hopefully that will count.

no. you have an unfair advantage if you are white.

They don’t care who you are. If you throw in some form of diversity (Like you did with the Jewish heritage), that’s a plus. They want to see that you’re aware of these kinds of things.

It doesn’t matter if you’re from Ghana, Sweden, Mexico, or whatever. Only clicking that button which says what race you are doesn’t do much. They want to see that you’re connected to your heritage, or have great understanding of culture, etc. They want to see you bring diversity to UW. If they grab a bunch of random colored people without caring what they wrote about, UW would be a pretty different place, in my opinion.

Please don’t worry so much. D:

My son is white and homeschooled and was accepted into U.W. We were sort of stressed about that too but it turned out okay so don’t worry!

Tessey- what was your sons GPA and SAT? What about his ec’s?

He did have some Running Start credits at our local college. I think those were about 3.5.
His SAT was 2040 with writing the strongest score. His E.C’s were very, very strong. He spent tons of time on his essays and activity statements and I think those are what got him in. Still, we worried about the white, male, homeschool status up until the day he got the letter All that worry for nothing!

GPA of ~3.8 with SAT of 2330. I had 2 years worth of Running Start classes at WSU, though, so that may have put me in a different sort of category.

With regards to advice - pretty much what speedsolver said. In other words, you don’t have to be awesome in every way; if you’re weak in one aspect of the application, you just need to shine somewhere else.

so is excelling in on part of the application be good essays and good ec’s? I have volunteer experience, work experience, presidents award, captain of JV basketball team, etc.

Yeah, definitely play those up. Essays especially, since that’s the one place where you have the opportunity to speak directly to the admissions committee and show them why you deserve to get in. Also, don’t be afraid to get outside opinions on your essays…feedback from others is always helpful.

Don’t remember exactly, but I had around a 2000 SAT score and a 3.9GPA, with 2 years of running start.

Some of you guys are out of your mind with this dialogue. Washington State I-200 ended any concern you should have had about not getting in because you’re “White.”

With that said, Jewish is a cultural issue and should help you getting in. Mizrahi and Sephardim are not considered “White” (I would argue it would be fallacious to argue Ashkenazim were White, but whatever).

I had no HS diploma (dropout at sophomore) and a high GPA at Community and Technical College and I got in with tons of scholarships. But they also gave me help through the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity and are giving me support through tutoring, even though none of my scholarships are for being a minority I didn’t make mention of it in my essays but my name is clearly Hispanic; I wrote my essays about dropping out of HS to work full time at two jobs.

Either way, you should be able to get in. I know plenty of smart people at UW who got in with lower marks.

Accepted for Fall 2010
