<p>Some prospective employers actually resent people who attended glossier schools than they did. I was once interviewed by a guy who mentioned rather pointedly that no one in the department had gone to schools as prestigious as those I had attended. It made for a very ackward moment in the job interview. I mumbled something about having been "lucky." I didn't get the job.</p>
<p>Sometimes I think your best bet in a job hunt, if you did happen to go to a glossy school, is to interview with someone who went to a school that's a little glossier than yours. You may find that you match their preconceptions without threatening them.</p>
