In Grammatix Mike outlined a sentence-by-sentence essay that he says will get a 12. Has anybody used his method and got a 11 or a 12 on his or her essay?

Grammatrix is great in reading, but after using his essay is got an 8 so I stopped doing that, I am a good writer and I got a 11 just writing essays as I would in my AP Eng class . Moreover college board really likes when u put in phylosophical mumbo jumbo as opposed to personal experience.

i prefer rocketreview for writing and the essay portion. i used to make like middle 500's to mid 600's on the writing portion, but after using rocketreview it boosted it to like high 700's-800 (or so the practice tests indicate lol)

Thanks for the info loganr and arbortrees06...I like RR's advice and it makes sense that scholary examples show that you are sophisticated. But at the same time, the SAT is a standardized test so CB can't penalize people for not knowing literature or history (especially those who are taking the SAT in different countries because the literature is different there). So that means that personal examples should also work, which we have seen in the Blue Book...

Hey arbortrees06, does RR help with the writing MC? Is it better than Grammatrix in that section?

I used rr and grammatix. I'm not sure grammatix would work since i only have one more chance to take the SAT and I'm going to use the RR method. I used the RR approach and got an 11 on the essay the first time on the real thing.

However if you are a soph or junior then try the grammatix approach because it is so much less stressful to come up with personal examples than historical ones. It's not always easy to come up with examples in hist and literature that are relevant in those 25 min. You should try and thinking of a pool of topics beforehand, but still I feel it would be less stressful to use personal examples if you're a good writer.

I have one more chance tho and the hist/lit examples worked for me so I am not going to change my strategy for my last time.

retribution, i haven't done used the grammatix because rocketreview seemed to be working for me. for the multiple choice writing part i have improved majorly from my psat after applying these techniques which i briefly read. i think if you remember them all, your writing will improve drastically (atleast much quicker than reading or math). his techniques for the writing make it really easier to notice what's wrong in the sentence. definitely use these techniques, then do practice tests and see which kind of problems u are missing, then just review techniques on those and i think you will do amazing on the writing!

Thanks arbortrees06, I've decided to get RR!

Fatthermit, could you post your 11 essay that used RR's approach please?

Hi. Will there be a new version of RR anytime soon (by next year)? If not, then I might as well buy it now. Thanks.

The 2006 ed. is coming out on September 6th.

Alright, thanks lildezikobe836 .
