I applied EA to Notre Dame and got in as well (they didn’t withdraw my app immediately even though I asked them to), and who isn’t feeling lucky when they get in ED to an Ivy?
I live in New Jersey, school only ranks in quintiles (I’m in top quintile)
Congratulations! Thanks for this post.
don’t be another high SAT score. be a person. LOVE THAT. lol
Congratuations- I expect you have exceptional reference letters and must be passionate about the field you have been accepted to. I am at U Penn, and love it- outstanding research, professors who really care, students who are intersted and interesting, fantastic associations with organizations around the world, reputation that will help when you apply for competitive grad schools or competitive jobs. I encourage you to do the Frosh week activities on campus and in the community especially the leadership ones and ones where you go into the various community service groups they have associations with.
Congratulations and thanks This gives everyone hope.
Hah, I am so in your boat Excavalier. I have a 3.8 GPA with one B- soph year, but I want to go to Penn. I guess I’ll have to sell myself like no other.
I loved this post. In a college interview that I’ll probably never forget the person interviewing me said( off the record )“Cast your net wide, things are going to happen that you can’t explain and that are beyond your control.”
I loved how motivational this is… BUT then I was really crushed when I saw your super high SAT I score on a results thread. lol This sorta gives false hope as I really want to go to Penn but I do not have that high of an SAT score.
But I do like your message, though in your case it was being BOTH a high SAT score and a person. Congrats!
Amen, amen, amen! Should be required reading for every college applicant.
Excavalier: Can you tell me how you “marketed” yourself? Also, were your parents alum?
Thank you so much for posting this, everyone needs to see it. I have about the same scores as you do (a little lower) and I got into WashUSTL - more proof that there’s more to college admissions than your grades.
Congratz on U Penn!
Congrats Excavalier!! My son was also shocked and surprised to be admitted to Cornell with less than amazing SAT and ranking of 14%. He went through a “my grades don’t define me” stage in his freshman and sophmore year, so this was definitely a reach for him. I believe that his visit with the admissions person was key, as was his extensive involvement in debate (he has learned how to present himself and read others). I would not say he would be considered overly “well-rounded”, he has a singular passion…and that seems to have paid off for him. He did this in spite of advice from his parents, btw! He applied and was deferred ED, but then accepted RD…he also had 2 very good “back-up” schools lined out in which he was accepted. Dream big, but have alternatives!
“Don’t be a high SAT score”
What is wrong with that?
@lostmymind
OP is saying it’s okay to have high SAT scores but if you let it define you instead of your personality defining you, that’s a problem.
