To those without interviews yet at UMKC

My boyfriend told me that someone in the admissions dept. at UMKC has cancer which is why they've been slow with the interviews...so if you haven't gotten one yet I wouldnt worry at all.

thanks for info

Thanks sugababi. I think I might call tomorrow though. I suppose if I don't get an interview I can move on, but I just need to know one way or the other.

hey, I just called the UMKC medical school and they said they have not registered over half of the applications into the computer and you should get an interview within the next few weeks if chosen for one via email

Jashbela, do you mean that they have't even seen some of the medical applications yet? That's a relief!

thats what they told me.

I called Mary Anne today. I sent my application in around the end of October. She said that UMKC is in the process of "screening in" many of the applications. Mine wasn't going to be in till around next week or so. Then I confirmed my email address with her and she told me when interviews were going to be held (I'm assuming everyone here already knows those dates...). She did mention some things about some people getting interviews already though...does anyone know how exactly they are choosing for the interviews? Do they pick instate or oos first? Do they go by the time an app was turned in?

From CC, the whole process looks random. Order doesn't seem to have anything to do with when the app was turned in, or state residence. Go figure.

What is the purpose of the Nelson Denny Reading Test? How new is it?

is the reading test used in the admissions process, or is it used like the chem test?

what is the nelson denny reading test?? is that soemthing interviewees have to take..??

I'd ask Ms. Morgenegg for details on the nelson denny reading test, once you've got an interview. Here's a link to practice questions: Nelson Denny Reading Test Practice Questions - Help your Nelson Denny Reading Test Score with free NDRT Test Preparation Materials

thanks! the email w/ the details about the interview says the test doesnt affect your admissions..

Arfaa: does your email w/details about the interview say that the Toledo Chem test doesn't affect your admissions either? because just so you know, people who don't pass the Toledo chem test may be accepted on the condition that they take and pass chemistry over the summer before you would traditionally begin college--i don't know if i should really be worrying you all about this (because neither of the tests should be too hard anyway, and you should be focusing on preparing for your interview rather than worrying about these tests), but you may want to ask Ms. Morgenegg if the Nelson Denny Reading Test is connected to a similar condition (I don't know the answer to this bcuz this test was not given when I interviewed 3 years ago)

but honestly, if you've taken at least PreAP chemistry, and I bet all of you are in AP English--then you all should be fine with these tests

Yes is says that neither affect your admissions and i hear that both are not too hard...how should we prepare for the interview??

Arfaa: Just be comfy talking about yourself with confidence, and practice answering typical questions. I found the book, "Get Into Medical School" by Kenneth Iserson really helpful and informative, as a resource for practice interview questions/answers, info on accelerated med programs, etc. I think this list of interview questions that I could remember from mine are already in one of these forums...

if not, here they are again:

-what is your favorite book? tv show? why?
-what would you say is your greatest strength? weakness?
-you witness a classmate cheating. what do you do?
-tell me about your clinical experiences.
-what will you do if you don't get into this program?
-choose a social issue and tell me what you would do to help solve it.
-do you have any questions for about the program? (i think if you have something prepared to ask, it shows that you've done your research and know about the program. you can even ask something you already know)

If your reason for being a doctor is wanted to help people, be ready to answer, "Then why don't you be a cop?"

Guess I'll have to be a cop-doctor :)

i still have no interview,i guess i wont have to worry about what questions they ask?!!!!!
