I need some advice. I was planning to attend UCLA for electrial engineering this fall as a transfer, however, lately I've been having second thoughts. Now I'm thinking that maybe I should stay at my CC for an additional year and reapply for next Fall. Now my promblem is that I had initially agreed to transfer with a freind who I signed a lease with. Also, I'm not sure if electrical engineering is for me, and I'm aware that I cannot change my major at UCLA. What to do?

Why not just go to UCLA for a year and transfer to wherever it is that you'd rather go? I don't really think staying at your CC at this point would be fair to your friend since school is only a couple weeks away.

Assuming I do well at UCLA, how easily would I be able to transfer to another school of the same level of prestige/rank? I don't really want to transfer down.

Well, if you are wanting to transfer to another UC school, then staying at a CC WOULD be the best idea since it's an easier route. If you're wanting to transfer to a better school that's not a UC (so basically if you're not thinkin of Berkeley :) ) then you will be better coming from UCLA where your GPA will have more weight in the transfer process.

you should go to a CC because ucla will make u take engineering courses... plus, most of your CC courses are transferable; not to mention u save money

Would Berkeley even consider me for a transfer?

Thanks brand_182 for your replies.

No problem...

Of course Berkeley will consider you, but California has it set up so that the UCs give strong preference to CCC students and while transferring between UCs is very possible, it is harder. Just wondering, is Berkeley the one you're thinking of?

GrassPuppet, from what I know Berkeley would consider you for a transfer if you haven't attended a 4 year university prior to community college. If you've attended a 4 year university then you cannot exceed the 80 semester unit limit if you plan on transferring.

By the way, what is your GPA and which type of engineering would you like to major in?

Tiberius,

My CC GPA is 3.68, and I was thinking of mechanical engineering.

Anyone else have any input on this?
