to transfer or not to transfer...

and to start off, the basics :). right now, i am a student at western illinois university. after this semester i will have completed 53 hours, my current GPA is 3.068. right now i am double majoring in exercise science and economics. i am a member of delta tau delta (go delts!)

i am considering transfering to university of wisconsin - madison. it is a very highly ranked school, and the social aspects are completely unlike here (WIU is in a town called macomb, there is literally nothing here to do besides drink). madison on the other hand is a much much bigger town with several things to do and get involved in. this is where my dilemma comes in.

madison is a great research school, compared to WIU which is just a teaching school, so i think UW would prepare me better for graduate school in exercise physiology. however i am not certain about this.

how much is the name of the school going to affect my placement rate in graduate school?
to throw another curveball in, i intend on running for the positions of board of trustees and president of IFC (interfraternity council) here at WIU, at UW i would not have those opportunities.

there is a delta tau delta chapter at UW so i wouldnt go there completely alone, i could quickly meet people, so thats not a big problem, but i would also be leaving this school where i pledged with some of my best friends.

now speaking only for academics, which is a better choice for me? take into account the positions that i intend on running for here at WIU.
thanks in advance, i hope to see some of your replies.

Perhaps you need to figure out what you want before commiting to an IFC position at WIU. As for UW, you'll have the same opportunities with respect to the Greek System...although only about 5-10% go greek at UW.

As for reputation, a 3.0 from UW is slightly more impressive than the same at WIU for grad school, but the move should not be dictated solely on this info. You need to ask yourself how you would fit at UW, and if you are happy at WIU. If you are enjoying your time, and are challenged by your school, then a transfer to UW might be less attractive. If you are unhappy at WIU, and like the ethos of Madison, then apply as a transfer.

You'll be fine either way. If it were me, I'd transfer to UW, since I like the town, the academics, the politics, and can appreciate its size.

isleboy, UW is about 10% greek, which means 4,000 students.

i think im gonna go to UW for a weekend before i make my final decision, maybe actually staying at the delt house and having someone show me around for a weekend would be good for me.
