I'll make this quick because I don't have much to say on the topic myself; looking for shotgun opinions here :).

I am currently attended the University of California, Berkeley, by no means a bad school. When I joined, I was not entirely sure of what my future choices would be. Since then, I have decided on a pre-med path. As I'm sure many people here know, Berkeley does not have the greatest pre-med acceptance, especially on the east coast. I am a second semester freshman now.

At Berkeley, I am majoring in bioengineering and doing well grade wise (took multivariable calc, intro chem, and 2 humanities general ed classes first semester and got all As).

I have been offered transfer admission to the University of Pennsylvania (long story). If I took that option, I would be joining UPenn in the Fall of 2010 as a second year with credits being transferred more or less.

So the question is: is it worth transferring at this point? I understand Penn is a very good school for pre-med and has an impressive admission rate, but I have also heard that med school admission is mostly based on individual focus and hard work whereas the school merely leads you in the right direction. I feel that am I focused enough to stay "on track" regardless of where I go, so perhaps the advising services are not so required?
