To W or not to W?

Hello all,

I need a bit of advice from you. I current attend a CCC and have maintained a 4.0 after taking around 50 units. I will be applying to transfer to UC Berkeley and UCLA this November. Come March, I will have applied to the rest of the schools on my radar: Georgetown SFS, Columbia GS, Stanford (!!), and a few others.

This semester I am taking 19 units and definitely feel the burn. The two classes that have me worried are my Calculus and my German 4 class. I do not think that I will be able to get an A in both and I am terrified maybe in neither. I am heavily considering withdrawing (hence, receiving a W) from my German class since I think I am underprepared for the course (I was allowed to skip German 3 since it is not offered). My question is... will this W be something terrible on my application to the kinds of schools I am applying to? Would it be better to receive B's in both Calculus and German or an A in Calc and a W?

I could re-take German 4 in the Spring with greater ease as I will not be taking so many units then. Will the schools with March deadlines be able to see that and look favorably upon this?

PS Sorry for the strange writing style. My laptop is broken and I have to type on my iPad, which is excruciating for anything longer than two sentences.

A in Calc and a W in German is my advice. As far as i know, most colleges are not extremely concerned with one W on your transcript. Just don’t withdraw more than two classes (just my opinion), i think you’ll be fine.
