To what extent could one tailor an EE degree to software/computer engineering?

<p>Put simply, my school has an abnormally competitive computer science department (by which I mean a good number of ideal students still don't get in due to space constraints and prestige) and so many applicants are instead sort of dumped into EE (which is essentially open-admissions, given decent pre-req grades).</p>

<p>I am one of them.</p>

<p>I still want to do CS/CE, preferably on the software side, but I don't want to transfer as the only other in-state colleges with CS departments (none of which are any good anyway) are in far-off college towns and I enjoy staying with my family.</p>

<p>Do you mind me asking what school you go to? EE is still a great path, could you do undergrad EE and try to get a masters in CS?</p>

<p>Possibly take electives in CS, if you’re allowed to. Maybe you’ll take EE classes and realize that you like it more than software.</p>

<p>Look into embedded systems, and take CS electives.
But I have a feeling after 4 years of EE, you will gain a lot more interest in hardware anyway. I was like you when I started!</p>
