Yeah, its over. Nobody gets B's these days. That's at least 10 percent below the highest possible score attainable in a class. Everyone gets 4.0s these days. Find out if welding is an industry or a service type job.

Not as much as you think they do. As long as you get a 3.8 UW or higher, you'll be fine. After that, it's the scores, EC's, and whatnot that get you in. You certainly do not need a 4.0 UW. I only had a 3.88 UW or something when I applied (I have gotten B's before), so it's not THAT big of a deal.

^ I think 5 or so Bs is cutting it really thin. With college admissions being hyper competitive in every school imaginable, you should cut your losses when you can. Everyone applying to a school like Brown haws challenging courses. Even then, any school you apply to is a crapshoot. After two years of CC, watching brilliant people getting rejected from every school applied to, and non-minorities get into several top colleges with sub par everything, trivial things like a B, two Bs, three Bs don't really matter at all...

And yes, I was joking(deadpan face :) )... lol

a 3.9 GPA isnt gonna kill you - i'm pretty sure colleges wont care THAT much that u got a 89.4 in a class rather than 89.5...

i think gpa and test scores are just prerequisites and if you pass you will be considerd (if you are a predsident's son it doesnt matter at all)

but factors that actually sway the adcoms are essays, recs, how you portray your extracurriculars, awards, and luck(?)

So...to the OP...i think a 32 ACT is too low (33 is minimum for ivy's imo unless u stand out like crazy in you EC's) - if you can get your scores up to 34 ACT and maybe get a 2250+ on the SAT, and maintain 3.9+ gpa...then you have a chance and you'll get in or get rejected depending on essays, recs, etc. (if i were you i would spend some time working on those EC's)

I had 2 B's first semester of junior/senior year (same year) and got into Brown. and they were in Alg. 2 honors and AP Stats. Seriously you are worrying about nothing. Oh and by the way, my test scores were not as high as yours. Admissions is about more than numbers and such, so dont get so hung up on things like one B. Other things that make up your application (essays, ECs, etc.) are just as important. Good Luck :)

Oh and BTW, 32 is not too low. I got into Brown with an ACT equiv. of about 27 and a friend got into Harvard with a 30 ACT and no amazing ECs for either of us. There are sooooo many factors in the admissions decision like recs, essays, ECs, awards, interviews, and yes GPA, class rank and test scores. But schools don't want a student bodys full of students who all have 2400 SATs, 36 ACTs, 4.0 UW GPAs, 15 APs with 5's on all, play piano, did some generic research, ran cross country, and were apart of 5 service clubs. How boring would that be? Do your best and hope for the best.

Wow, thanks guys.
I didn't think I would get this much feedback O.o

Hmp, it seems like everybody's opinion is kinda mixed.
I just wish my parents would understand that one B won't kill me. Cuz my dad told me that one B and I won't be able to get into any of the top twenty schools, much less Brown.

as long as it's not a 2.0
and you don't have any failing classes

jk.

not THAT much tho. like, #1 and #10 in the class--there's not that much of a difference and that difference can EASILY be made up in ECs and others

ps. parents can be a little narrow minded. it'll be hard to convince them tho

1 B will not kill your chances of getting into top/competitive schools, just like straight As (or A+s) will not guarantee admission to those schools.

Ink, while colleges look at GPA as a future indicator of college performance, there are other factors as well. That's why someone with a 3.7 GPA and many EC's/athletics/activities may get into a school where someone with a 4.0 GPA but no other stuff, may not. Schools want well-rounded people attending, not all brainiacs who do nothing but study... ;-)

Will one "B" forever bury all possible hope for life, er, I mean Brown. (jk)

Errr... this is not something to be joking about. You're life is ruined. The only option left is to be a dump truck driver (not that there's anything wrong with dump truck drivers). Better get your trucking license early.

I agree and am glad that people on these boards realize that there are only about 15 schools that can get you a decent job...and only about 25 that make it likely that you will even get a job.

Harvard admission officers explicitly say that Harvard doesn't have a minimum GPA requirement, and Yale says the same. But of course the most selective colleges can afford to be choosy, and you should always work for the best grades you can get.
