To work...or not to work....that is the question.

Hello CC members, I'm in a bit of a predicament. I'm currently a junior and have participated in basketball since freshmen year, tennis since sophomore, academic bowl & math club since freshmen year, and finally link crew since last year.

Now for the problem: my mom lost her job so now money is extremely tight. Right now, I'm contemplating getting a job to work after school & on the weekends. Over the summer I worked as a lifeguard/swimming instructor and an aquatic invasive species instructor, so I do have work experience. I honestly don't want to give any of my EC's because they're all extremely important to me. However, I'm afraid that I won't be able to keep a 4.0 if I do decide to work and keep playing my sports/ all other EC's. I think I can maintain it, but you never know.

Basically if I do decide to work, 80% of the money will go to my parents for the bills & the rest I will save for college. I'm just wondering, will colleges take into consideration this extenuating circumstance & what would you do in my position?

Thanks in advance. Sorry it was a longer post lol.

I think colleges will take your financial situation in to account. Your desire to help your family will actually help you in the admissions process.
I think it will make you stand out instead of being a 4.0 kid with a ton of ECs, you can be a 3.8 kid with ECs who helped his/her family.
