To Work Study or Not to Work Study

What do you guys think about this topic? Do you guys hold a job on campus? What were your reasons to and if you guys don't, what were the reasons not to?

I was also wondering about this because my financial aid package states I need ~$3000 of work study this year to meet to cost, or I can take another $2000 of loans and $1000 work study.

My son just finished his first year at UCB, and he worked approx 10 hours per week (work study) in the mail room. He is currently working fulltime as a hospitality clerk over the summer at UCB. My son said that his experience working in the mail room was one or the reasons why they hired him for the summer.

If you need money to help finance your education, work study is great! I think most students can work 5 - 10 hours per week without it adversely affecting their studies/social life. My son has met a lot of interesting people (fellow students and UCB staff) though his job and is also gaining valuable work experience.
