A few years ago we rented a houseboat with 2 other couples in Canal Du Midi in southern France. We expected to love the wine (which was very affordable!). But we were surprised by how much we adored the bread. Eventually we figured out it was not just the bread. It was also the delicious butter which we slathered on it, something we didn’t typically do back at home. My husband will wistfully say, “remember that butter, with the tiny chunks of salt in it?”

Butter. Sometimes with cinnamon sugar or red currant jam. But always butter, lightly salted not unsalted.

100% don’t underestimate the taste and enjoyment value of good quality butter!!!
