Today's R-Day pix

Pictures from today are posted - 157 so far. There should be quite a few more by the end of the day. Recognize anyone?

YAY! I love it.

Only the cadre :) Wow, weather looked really bad for you guys. Did they even have the parade in the evening? Pictures stop before that...

Congrats to all the new New Cadet Parents! Realize your children made the class of '09 really, really happy out there at Buckner. No doubt, following the traditions, they announced the arrival of the first member of the class signifying a new lowest rank on the totem pole.

Strenght in the days to come. Think good thoughts and send mail. Plan out the boodle box for August. Be ready for the phone calls. Reserve rooms for Plebe Parent Weekend, and get plane tickets. Send more mail. Six weeks until the school year starts, and another great adventure!

Luck to you all!

HA HA they look pretty grim; are those the infamous BCG's they're wearing..HA HA HA...the name fits... :D

Looking at the kids and the parents I'm glad I don't have to go through that again.

Anyway great pics.

bzzzt,

There will be more pictures posted as the day progresses. If like last year, they will still be taking pictures past sundown.

How does it feel to be an old grad?

MOT...thanks for posting.

The ones in the beginning, the “good-bye” PICS made me cry....maybe, its the rain, reminded me of INDOC '05 at KP.

And boy some of them looked soooo young!

Hey Jamzmom, notice that they don't have to button their top button?

Think I spotted my son in a couple of the pics. Wait a minute! Can't be him, he's a Yuk at Buckner. At least he says he is. Hope he's not recyling plebe year.

Gosh, the pictures sure bring back the memories. Is it my imagination or are the black socks shorter this year? The next class always has it easier.

The cadets still look so fashionable with the gym shorts, white t-shirts and black socks/shoes. Glasses still qualify as BCG's. New cadets have that R-day somber(or is it scared?) look on their faces. What a contrast to the first time they put on those "white over grey" uniforms. God bless them all.

Bzzzt, you're right about the yuks looking forward to R-day. When I spoke with our son yesterday he said that the status of being a Yuk would only begin when there were some new cadets lower on the USMA rank totem pole.

aspen,

That's really funny. I could have sworn I saw my daughter there, too. Last year, I was ready to claim just about any girl as mine. One day shogun and I both thought the same girl rapelling down a mountain was our daughter. (They don't even come close to resembling each other.) It was actually my daughter's roommate, who doesn't resemble either of them.

So, 2010 parents, go ahead and claim any cadets you want. And wait until the 2010 Memory Page goes "live". You'll be able to spend hours scouring the pictures. (I'm very jealous that there aren't many pix from Buckner.)

Ok. I just devoured all of those. Can't wait for the next batch!

Ok. I've picked out my two favs so far. #32 I've named "The face of determination" & #121 "GET ON MY LINE!" I swear I could hear the Cadre say that all the way down here.

Oh yea Prayerfulmom. I know what you mean. My heart melted for those parents when they were giving those hugs. WOW, you WP parents must be reliving this like it was yesterday! Too neat.

Looking at the pictures makes me a little sad. I wish my son were there today. If everything goes well at NMMI he'll be there next year, but I know how much he wanted to report today. :(

WAMOM it's all part of a long journey. The year will go by faster than you know...and then it will be your son at R-day and you giving the hugs! Good luck to him at NMMI!

Please, claim and photograph all the new cadets you want. My parents took pictures of EVERY short, female, BCGed new cadet in my platoon...and of a few of the taller ones too. I gave them away to my buddies, their parents were very appreciative.

I don't feel like an old grad yet...although I do have the t-shirt! My company got together and we've got yellow cadre t-shirts that say "Old Grad" in huge letters across the front. I swear, I put mine on after the graduation parade and didn't take it off until my room mate's wedding on Sunday.

After I go to BOLC, I hope this feels more "real." I went through Grad Week, the parties, and all the weddings, (including my own), but I still feel like I'm supposed to report back to West Point in August!

Congrats Bzzzt on everything! Sounds like its been an exciting ride these last few months.

WAMom, I know you can't possibly believe it now, but Boss is so right. This year will pass by like a blur. Especially after Xmas. Everyone here knows how important NMMI is & what it does for the kids going in. Its a BIG deal to have the opportunity to go there. So you just keep hanging out with us til its time for him to go. He probably won't realize it now, but he'll be so glad going to his R-Day packed with knowledge all his own. Best wishes to him. Betcha he does well!

Found my boy....pic 246, the tall one looking real focused. WOW.....

Rasdad: That's a real keeper photo. Make sure you download a copy for your scrapbook and send your son a copy in one of your letters. He'll love it.

Keep checking the photos everyday. It helps pass the time until the first call home happens.

Man.. there's only one picture with my friends in it- one is pretty far back and my "big brother" had his head down. I think I'm going to cry. :(

The Beast photos should start appearing very soon. You'll have a chance to see the New Cadets in action.

I have a few decent photos of B-1/2 companies from the Oath Ceremony. Mostly of the front rows, my right half. If you didn't make it to R-Day and have a cadet in those companies and would like to see the photos you may email me.
:-)

Here is the link to the USMA 2010 Memory Page. Lots of good photos on here, and you can submit more if you took some at R-Day. Didn't find the little bro on any of these, but did get a glimpse of him on the USMA homepage the other day wearing ACUs (barely, just his eyes and ears in the back!) and another one from R-day. Also got the phone call today and he's enjoying it, especially the PT, and will be glad to stop waiting in some of the long lines. He's also become quite fond of peanut butter as he can eat it quickly and swallow it quickly and still get protein....I have fond memories of guys at my Beast table doing the same thing! Nothing he said surprised me, and I'm glad to see that some things haven't changed! GO ARMY!
