Toefl and English questions?

I have some questions regarding the toefl requirements for these schools: Stanford, Duke and U Penn

  1. I have an sat score of 2110: 740Wr, 660CR, 610M. Anyways these schools all say that they don’t require it but they strongly recommend it. Does that mean I am Disadvantaged if I don’t send toefl scores? I also have attended an English speaking school in Africa from 7-11 and I am now in the us senior year taking Honors English 12.
  2. My old counselor at my old school in africa is sending a school profile (which states that medium of instruction is english). Will that waive it for me or will I still be in a disadvantage?

Thank you in advance

If you have TOEFL score 110+ then it does not hurt to send.
If you could increase your SAT 610M then it’s better.

…I think you meant 2010 for your SAT? Honestly, I’d work on improving that instead. Many schools will waive the TOEFL if you went to an English-speaking high school. Just email and ask, won’t hurt your chances, plus it might save you some money. The TOEFL is ridiculously expensive. In any case, schools don’t care much about the TOEFL, it’s just to make sure that your English is good enough to handle college-level coursework. Requirements depend on the school, but it’s usually 100 on the iBT. Some schools specifically want a higher score than 25 on each section. Colleges just have a cutoff, and it matters very little even if your score is perfect, so if there’s a possibility of waving it, I certainly would. Much more important is your SAT, which is low for the schools you’re aiming for, especially if you’re an international student who requires financial aid.

Sorry my math was 710 so it’s 2110 @Guitar500 and @coldweather.
