TOEFL IBT SCORES

Hi,

I’m a french transfer student and i’m actually applying for differents universities and i’m doubtful about my chances to be admitted ; here is a list of all of them:

  • Babson College
  • Loyola Marimount University
  • Stetson University
  • University of Miami
  • USC
  • UCSD -UCLA

I actually finished applying for UCSD and UCLA ( deadline passed).

My TOEFL IBT SCORE : 77. unfortunately, i didin’t get 80 ( only 3 points). I think it’s kind of good for a french right !

I know that normaly, the minimum score for mainly all of those universities is 80 but i would like so much to make it right !

i just have to report my toefl score on the website application now for UCSD and UCLA but i’m afraid it’s gonna be much more harder.

I believe there is a way to have a chance. My GPA is 2 but only for 1st year. i don’t have my GPA for the second year because i didn’t take all my exams yet.

Reading : 17
Listening: 16
Speaking: 23
Writing: 23
Total = 77

there is probably a way to be accepted among at least one ?

thanks a lot for your help

With a 2.0 GPA, your TOEFL is the least of your worries. It will be very difficult to transfer into any of those colleges.

I get it. there is a way, maybe with my academic records, my actual ones to have a chance. My personal statement and my activites also.

You have a shot at Stetson but not at the other ones, and only if you’re full-pay (ie., your parents can demonstrate that they can pay the full costs). None of the other universities will admit you - in order to have a shot, you’d have to have a GPA above 3.5, but closer to 3.75-4, a TOEFL 100, and an overall stand-out application.
(Note that most of the French students I work with get scores in the 90s or over so 77 isn’t “good” for a French student, it’s actually below average - a good Terminale can get 80-85 relatively easily, you really need to study and take the test again; they wouldn’t apply to the universities you listed if they didn’t have a 14-16 average and a 100+ TOEFL.)
Is that 2.0 a French 10 or a French 6? (If so, be aware that 10=3.0, not 2.0). What bac mention did you get?
Assuming you’re full pay and that you have a 10/3.0, other universities that would likely admit you include Cal Poly Pomona (if you’re into science and technology), Sonoma State, CSU Monterey Bay, Whittier, Flagler, University of West Florida, Barry, St Leo, Westminster (Utah), Longwood, ODU, Guilford, Washington&Jefferson, Lesley, University of Maine at Farmington, MCLA, Rowan, Drew, Fairleigh Dickinson, Hiram, Hartwick, Manchester, Nebraska Wesleyan, College of Idaho…
Reaches would include University of South Florida, Christopher Newport, Appalachian State, Washington College, Umass Lowell, Clark, Penn State Erie, Susquehanna University, Ithaca College, Hendrix, Allegheny, Ohio Wesleyan…
Did you take the SAT?

I understand what you say. Actually, by making the calculation, My GPA is 2 on a 0-4 scale so 11,1 on a scale of
0-20. My current university’s advisor by making my college report for the common application put a GPA of 2.

Maybe it’s wrong. what do you think about that ? I got my Bac mention Passed with Grade B.

Actually, I chose those universities and campuses because of their location, Florida, LA, San Diego. I’m into business administration, entrepreneurship, Business economics. that’s is my thing. Between all of them, what are the best in business and near the beaches ?

Thanks a lot for your reply and your help.

More information : normally, i have 60 credits each semester ( for the first year and same for the second ).

the first semester i got 14 credits and the second semester I got 30 credits. But normally the number of credits is the number of hours so it can be 60 credits. My credits is Credits ECTS.

I’ve applied for fall 2015 so it’s too late i think no ? the deadline for those colleges might be at November 30th

If your adviser put 2.0, then you’re sunk. 2.0 is the bare minimum not to be kicked out. Kind of like 6 in France. 11 would be like 3.2 or so. With a 3.2 you have a shot - it’s not terribly high, but it’s not awful. A little above average even if not quite qualifying as good. See if your adviser can correct this, or just send your original transcripts. The 2.0 means you won’t get into any university - even a very low-ranked university would require 2.25 or 2.5 (no university wants to admit a student who’s about to be kicked out elsewhere due to low academics).
I don’t think any of these universities’ deadlines have passed for internationals, actually.
To prioritize, focus on these:
CSU Monterey Bay, Whittier, Flagler, University of West Florida, Barry, St Leo, ODU, Novasoutheastern , FIU, Coastal Carolina.
They have beach access to a certain extent - and, I assume that you hope for swimmable waters so I removed most universities that are too far north for swimming.
The universities you chose won’t admit you. There’s just no way, you’re not even bottom 25% for them. Additionally, some of them have beaches but the water’s too cold to swim in (UCLA, Babson).

Ok I see … If the deadlines haven’t passed, I could definitely change if the curriculums in business are good, if the campuses are great too. I am going to see with my advisor about that. But I am 100 % sure my first year average is 11,1. so my GPA must be higher you say right ? when you say 6 you mean the average right ?

thanks for your help
