Thanks nauru!!
wow that's good. i only need to show toefl to 4 schools..
$165 though..

in which world do ETS people live in!!!???.......what did they think when fixing 165$!!!!

Monopoly... If you don't like them, you can always take IELTS.

lol,as if IELTS its free..................it costs 150$..:D...

I didn't say it's free, but at least you get to decide which devil you want to pay.

For people who are proficient in English, the TOEFL is a total waste of time. It's a shame that you have to pay so much for something that's totally useless.

LOL(10),that one really made be go off my seat.....
Thats indeed true,...........but IELTS is even more than TOEFL.......IELTS is much much easier than TOEFL.....then I guess u know what I mean....:D...

Toefl AND Ielts = both are a waste of time (well, for me atleast)

My friend who's native language is Chinese, put down English as his native language, so he doesnt have to take the toefl (he's fluent).
I'm thinking maybe I should do the same..

toefl for me is $150

Yeah,WASTE of TIME n MONEY!

Toefl is soo expensive... even the time is hard to get in the test centress....

another thing is, everyone (almost without exception) does well on the TOEFL. so what exactly is the TOEFL measuring that the SAT doesn't?

true...its just a formality...but formality for what??

I like to think ETS pays the colleges for making it a requirement. But thats just me.

Not everyone will do well on toefl, especially for people who come from a non english speaking country, like China. People there take classes specifically for the Toefl test. you don't know how much money they spend on that!

It may look this way on CC. In the real world, there are lots of students who have problem meeting the 250 minimum score. To them, TOEFL may be a good gauge ... afterall, it's a proficiency test. Btw, over here TOEFL classes are quite popular ... talked about being robbed!

Still it makes no sense to test students who have already demonstrated proficiency in English. College should allow you waive the test if you score high enough in SAT reading and writing.

TOEFL is fine when applying without the SAT (say to Canada and Australia), but to have to take the SAT and the TOEFL makes little sense

The toefl have a speaking and listening section which are not tested on the SAT. It is very possible for people to score high on the SAT while they don't even speak english.

As far as I know most universities don't care a fig about the speaking section; before the new ibt came into force with its compulsory speaking section, most people did not take the speaking test and most universities only required you to take the reading, writing and listening parts.

Hmmm........it seems TOEFL is more compatible than IELTS.In IELTS you will have to take all the sections compulsorily(i.e.,reading,writing,listening,speaking..)

lol......i have been reading through the posts and I see the pain we are all suffering from....to top it off... Over here when you register for Toefl, you have to wait 3 MONTHS before they can find a test date for you.....LMAO!!!!!!
