What score did you get on the TOEFL? I just did it, and it is something between 209 and 263. I sort of ****ed up the Listening Section, but damn I just did not concentrate. In summary, this test was so damn boring. Anyway, what did you get?

So I am asking because I am a bit worried. I am really good in English, but the TOEFL does not show this, I guess. I know that it was my fault since I didn't concentrate. Well, can't change that now.
What do you think, will it hurt?

TOEFL is a piece of crap. I took it a few days ago, the computer based version, and it had an unskippable 20 minute tutorial that explained how to use a mouse and keyboard... I wanted to bash my head into the monitor, since I've been using computers since I was 7.

It bored me to tears. It's not college level English at all. I got a perfect on the listening, but the pictures looked like they were from the 70's and the lectures that were used as examples were so high school.

The reading was so friggin' boring that I even got a 25 on it. Some of the questions weren't phrased properly and the texts were dull as hell. Migration habits of blue tuna anyone?

Don't know the scores for my writing/structure yet. The structure was really short and easy. Writing was a breeze and I think they should definitely raise the complexity of the essay questions. The one I had was about choosing similiar or different friends and the advantages/disadvantages of having a diverse group of friends versus a homogenous one... Come on, friends? What is this? A sitcom?

The amount of time that was available to answer the questions was ridiculous too. I finished all the sections in about 1/3 or half the time that was given. There's really no point in giving extra time. If you don't know something, it's not gonna help and stare at the question for 5 minutes and try to remember what you learned the night before.

Anyway, I don't think it will hurt you if you do well on the SAT/ACT Verbal/English parts or you could just take the TOEFL again/

Pavel, I feel just like you. I was finished in less than 2 hours, and these damn tutorials were so silly. It really is crap. I hope I'll have fine SAT scores, since I really don't want to do the toefl again.
bah.

Yeah, it's expensive too. Around 40$ for the ACT, ~60$ for the SAT and 140$ (!!!) for the TOEFL.

Ok, so a question to everybody again:
what is considered a good TOEFL score for international guys? MIT for example sais that 233 is their minimum and 250 is a competitive score. Does that mean that 250 is good enough for them?

a gud score is always above 260 ..nothing below that

by the way, do they really care whether you have got 260 or a 280 score? i thought it would be on a Pass/Not Passed - basis...?!

above 260 all is equal in a way
and it is a pass fail basis though 260 plus is gud and can help...

below that it wont serve as gud

hm..so 263 is ok? no need to retake, even for ivy league?

If it makes you feel better, the GRE is equally boring.

yup 263 is fine even for ivies .........

how bout 257 for Johns Hopkins.. is that oke? or do u think i should retake it?

If they have a minimum, and you're below that, then it's bad.

i just gave it yesterday...my score range was 237-290....i think i am safe!!

ah damn, i just don't know what to do...
i have a toefl score of 108-263. if its 263 => that's fine. but anything below 250 would be bad...unfortunately, i get my scores pretty late. so I am thinking about taking the test again...what should I do? my SAT CR is ok, but writing is only 560...

when i came out of the test room with a 263....I was desperate coz i am afraid that my essay score is very likely to be a 5...which put score down to 253 ....

and finally..after i returned from Euro Trip.....I got 6.0 on essay....

that's a realli relief............263 is fine for most schools...

I got CR 770, and now I realized I wasted my $100+ on TOEFL :(

what do u guys think of my TOEFL score VS SAT CR and Writing?

CBT TOEFL-257 (5.5 on Writing)
SAT CR- 410 .. HAHA this is really embrassing!!
SAT Writing - 520 (7 on Essay) =(

I finally got my TOEFL score a few days ago. I got 277 (28L, 28W, 27R and the essay 5.0). The test really was boring, but the tutorials... How to use a mouse?!! GOD!!!
