Toefl..Toefl..

Hey.. I recently took the Toefl and got above 260. ( The score is not reported yet but i'm certain that i'm at least above 260 but not 270) So, should i retake the test and aim for a higher score? i know people say Toefl doesn't matter much and just over 250 is fine. But I'm still frustrated that what if i get rejected because the Toefl score is not enough or the score acts negatively compare to other students? The competition frustrates me. Most of international students I know are in 270's or in 280's. Do the admission officers narrow down students with Toefl scores? Or do they just make sure the student is over 250? Gosh..What the heck, should I just cool down? haha... ;;;;

Toefl is hardly ever the deciding factor! It's enough for you to be within the range. I don't think they're going to differentiate between a 260 and a 270 or more.
Concentrate on the rest of your application! Toefl is usually just a requirement to fulfill. Don't stress over it. If the guy with a 270 is admitted instead of you, it'll certainly(99%) not be due to his 10 point advantage in the toefl.

i think SAT 1 is a much better indication of how proficient you are in Englsih. i'd worry more about that.

140 $. man i advice you to keep money for SATs.i think SAT looks better

I gave the toefl last month and got 293 just to hear that I'd be waived off it anyway(Canada) as I had done my schooling from an english medium school.:(usually. Univs ask for 237+ and over 250 will work everywhere. Don't retake it, it'll make no difference to your profile, work on other more important areas instead.The toefl doesn't show any scholastic ability at all, so you can never be rejected because of the toefl score.

Keep the score you got. Toefl is not at all that important. If you wrote it and you passed you're all set, so calm down and just take it as it comes. Depending on weather you want to go to school in canada or the states take the sats (if you plan on going to the states). If you're planning on applying to canada just leave it with the Toefl, you'll get in anywhere if your other grades are good enough.

dont retake!

All have already said .... If u wanna prepare do it for SAT..... In fact TOEFL scores go in the dump bin as soon as they satisfy the basic requirement. ~~~~~

~~No panic or freaking here ....perfectly normal unless u wanna go to MIT where Toefl is an option II~~~~~

what abt ur sats .they can really help u demand a TOEFL waiver in case of really gud scores.......

many colleges donot require TOEFL...if ur SAT verbal is above 600...i don't think submitting the TOEFL scores is necessary at all...and yeah...score above 270 in TOEFL...and that's the last u will hear abt it....

ya don't reatke TOEFL....it's not that imporatnat at all...prove ur proficiency in English through SAT...thats what colleges r looking for...

Don't retake the TOEFL. Having taken it once should be enough and above 250 is pretty good. SAT's (and AP/IB English to a certain extent) are usually given a harder look at when it comes to showing Englis proficiency. :)
