I am an int. Student (obviously).
&& I'm applying to a bunch of U's RA for fall 2012, so the deadline to submit ALL documents is January 1. I know I should've taken it a long time ago, but I have not yet taken the TOEFL. anyway, I was planning to take it on December 9th. with two weeks till the results are out, I would have everything on time. But I read it somewhere on the Internet that the results could take up to three or four weeks, which be disastrous in my case as I would miss most deadlines.
I was just wondering if any of u guys have taken the TOEFL and how long it took for the results to become available.

I’m taking it this friday and the scores are supposed to be available in two weeks. Even if it takes longer, schools will still consider the tests you take in December so you should be OK for a Jan 1st deadline. Anyway, you should contact the universities for specific answers. Also, if you got above 550 on the Critical Reading section of the SAT, most schools waive the TOEFL!

I got a 570 on critical reading…which is very low in relation to my other SAT scores (around 700)…so I decided not to submit my SAT scores and just send them TOEFL instead…

Supporting documents can usually arrive a bit after the application deadline, as long as your main application is there on time. That’s especially true around Christmas: many colleges offices are closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day and spend the first one or two weeks of January assembling application files. It shouldn’t matter if your scores get there on Dec 23 or Jan 3.

My scores were available less than 1 week after i took the iBT TOEFL. But only online… The paper certificate arrived around 1 month after.

@tiago: that ^ is reassuring
I dont care about paper certificate

I got my TOEFL scores in less than two weeks. Also, the deadline that colleges set is just for submitting common application form (or an equivalent). I submitted my scores and financial documents long after the deadline (~2 weeks) and everything turned out ok lol

Btw, EitchG, why dont you send your SAT scores? I think they are pretty high (570+>1400=>1970). Considering what college you are applying to of course:D

Universities also waive toefl if you had studied your whole life in english medium school

@betominh: exactly, c the point is, I’m applying to MIT, stanford, & a bunch of LACs…LACs don’t mind my 570 very much (when put beside the 700s)
But I am afraid skools like MIT wud put me @ disadvantage 4 it…
Plus, MIR actually prefers international kids to take TOEFL instead of SAT…

may be it’s a bit too late, but I’ll answer here.
The application deadline is Jan 1, BUT you can submit test results after this deadline as well. Most universities will take the SAT results from the Jan administration. For instance, I’ll send in my SAT scores after the January test date, because if I just send in what I have until now, and the January scores thereafter, I’d have to pay the additional reports twice.
It’s the same with TOEFL. I’ll take it on December 17 and the scores will be out until Jan 9, so don’t worry if you don’t have all scores until the deadline. :)
