Toefl trouble

1- The person who is in charge of taking us to the class made a mistake ; I am waited long time by him and when he took us to the class the test was already started, he had no idea about his mistake(he was very young maybe 13?) and naturally me and 3 other people arrived late to the room because of him.(but we would be on time if he didnt stop us)Another person said that dont worry you are going to take the test, there is no problem, you all will have enough time...they were trying to clean their mess...

2-Then, in the class, the person who is responsible for showing seats said that ETS didnt send my test number and I am waited again long time for the test.

3-He fixed it and I started doing the test, but it was late, later than everyone else in the room. While I am trying to concentrate on the last two reading passages and the whole listening section, all people were speaking(speaking section)I was totally depressed, distracted by all these problems.

This was really unfair! The reading and listening were my strongest sections and I really lost a lot of points because of being distracted and not being concentrated...On the other hand, while I am doing the speaking and writing sections, nobody was in the class and I really did well because nobody was speaking...

Do you think that I may object that problem and want them to make another reading and listening part for me?

You can file an official complaint with ETS, but they are not going to let you retake individual sections. If you are very very very lucky, they might cancel your scores and let you retake the entire test. But that’s unlikely to happen. More likely is that they will score your test as planned and include a note about the testing irregularities on your score report. In any event, you have to file a complaint before you get your scores. If you already got your scores, you are just another kid disappointed by his result and hoping for a free retake.

While I agree that your experience has been particularly frustrating, every test taker has to suffer through a similar experience. It is unfortunate that the TOEFL, unlike the SAT, allows test takers to finish sections early because everyone gets to the speaking section at a different time. Even if you had started the test on time, people would have been speaking while you were trying to concentrate on other sections.

Agree with the poster above… Don’t let ETS get off easy… File a complaint and get the scores canceled

thanks a lot for the info

@phyz

thanks for your support

I took the exam yesterday. So, I didn’t take the results yet.

I will file a complaint…But it is futile…Even though I get my money back or they let me take a free test, I won’t be able to attend my college this year because the office of undergraduate admissions said that may 9 is the last day that they may wait for my scores…Maybe, If they include a note about irregularities, there may be a chance because my speaking and writing scores likely will be >25.

We are paying 150$ and getting nothing special…

get the scores cancelled? O comeon, wait for the result to come. Atleast you didn’t cuss on the speaking section like i did! I still got 110 out of 120.

If you need the scores now, I would keep my mouth shut. Whatever the outcome of the complaint is, it is not going to help you. And joiya550 is right: if your English is decent, you probably did fine. Maybe you scored a few points below your potential, but it will still be good enough for admission purposes.

Did you take the paper based or the iBT?

@ smartchap ---- Ibt

@ b@rium ----- I took a lot of practice Ibt’s and never scored <90, however, this time, I am expecting to get below 70(writing+speaking=50 / reading+listening=20 or lower ), which is not going to fulfill the admission requirements(80).

I just wrote my complaint and will send it tomorrow. I hope they find a good solution.

Thats what you think. I didn’t even know the format when I went to give the test let alone how it’s scored. How do you know that you’ll get 70? Well if you don’t want to listen to us, go ahead and see for yourself.

I’m pretty sure that I’ll get below 80 because I know how it is scored. I took a lot of sample IBT’s at Kaplan’s…experience…just don’t be mad at me…In addition, I really understood what you said. I won’t get my scores cancelled because >70 may also work for me if I tell this problem to my colleges.
