<p>Are they recommending because its easier for me, or they will value TOEFL result more? I don't want to waste an 100$ if it wont make a difference.</p>
<p>They are likely recommending it because, in their experience, students who fit the above criteria do better on the TOEFL than they do on the SAT.</p>
<p>There is no preference by MIT for either the TOEFL or the SAT for non-native English speakers. You should take the test for which you feel best-prepared.</p>
<p>Easier. Basically non-native speakers often have trouble with the SAT/ACT verbal even if they are perfectly competent in English for a variety of complex reasons. </p>
<p>Rule of thumb: if you don’t get into the 700s on the English portion, then go ahead and take the TOEFL.</p>
That grabbed my interest. Mind if I ask if there’s an article or some sort of information regarding these reasons? This rule seems to apply a lot here.</p>
