toefl

so i took in jenuary the sat and it went horrable: 540 math, 360 reading and 370 writting..
with such scores i wont go far..but the english park is too hard for someone that speak the lenguage only a year..i know that my english is not bad (thats why im not ESL student) but still i cannot compete with american in writting and reading scores, its just not fair..
im trying to rais the two sections to 450 with kaplan but its still not anough!!!
so ppl sugesting me to take toefl..i was asking the miss in the college office in my school in the past but now i have so many questions, and its summer and she cant help me...
so i hoped you could answer few questions:
1. im hoping to get into UB and their toefl score requirment is 79..(ill probably get higher)does it means that then i can take the major that i want to or i am limitted? (i know its long procces) but my dream is be a dr. and take pre med + biomedical science..
if im toefl student so i cant take this major???
2.am i limmitted becouse of the toefl?

thank you for your attention...

umm actually It depend on where are you come from?

UB is the competitive one. I think you have 2 choices. try to raise your SAT score or take toefl andfind the lower university that require on;y toefl for Int.

Do you mean that you have studied english only a year? I don’t think it too bad since I studied german for 3 years with understanding nothing.

i came form israel!!!in israel you learning english since 2nd grade…but trust me i was horrible!!!just soo bad…but since i came all my english got fixed cuz im studying in normal class(not esl)…

soo annoying can u just explain a little bit more?

???

hey there Daniella,
as for the SAT, I guess you can do better on math since it won’t be as intimidating as the English sections. I don’t recommend Kaplan as a study guide, specially for Writing and Reading. I’d recommend the official SAT guide of course and the Princeton Review… Barons is a great book for math as well.
As for whether the TOEFL will compensate for your low English scores and make you in good competition for your intended majors. TOEFL only compensates for the reading score. I’m not sure if you’ll have the eligibility of raising your score so high that you’d be accepted in one of the top universities, though, that’s very unnecessary and many, many other universities and colleges would serve the same purpose in your case. I’d recommend you read novels or NYtimes 'cause your spelling, grammar and vocab/word choice is a little inapt. check the universities recommendations and requirements. I’m positive that for any scientific field you’ll have to take two SAT subject tests.
